苏珊·桑塔格(1933-2004)是美国当代学界活跃的学者、著名的小说家、批评家、政治运动先驱,广泛涉猎文艺评论、小说、哲学、文化、摄影理论等多个领域。迄今为止,她的著作已经被译为32种文字在世界各地发行。西方评论界给她高度的评价,称她为“美国知识分子的良心”、“非官方文坛皇后”。作为一位评论家,桑塔格以20世纪60年代发表的《反对阐释》在西方文艺界掀起轩然大波,开始向以道德、内容、意义为中心的传统阐释开炮,提倡形式至上的新阐释标准。此后,她接连提出了“新感受力”、“坎普美学”、“艺术色情学”、“沉默的美学”等先锋的文艺观。作为一位作家,她的小说也带有浓重的后现代主义色彩,她的早期作品以抽象的符号、流动的意识、难以阐释的结构著称。20世纪70年代中期以后,面对甚嚣尘上的极端消费主义、反智主义等文化观的泛滥,艺术面临被消费甚至死亡的危险。桑塔格开始重新审视自己早期的美学思想,意识到了传统阐释所捍卫的道德对艺术的保护作用,着手完善自己的核心美学价值“新感受力”并在2000年创作完成最后一部长篇小说《在美国》。该小说自发表以来以独特的叙述方式,简练、深刻的语言,日记、小说、独白等多种体裁的运...
