[Abstract]:Since its publication, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice has been considered one of the most popular novels in England in the 19 th century. Although many scholars at home and abroad have studied this issue from different angles, few researchers attempt to explore Darcy's character from the perspective of attitude and resources. Therefore, using the three subsystems of attitude resources, emotion, judgment and appreciation, this study tries to analyze Darcy's personality characteristics. The theory of evaluation is based on the study of interpersonal meaning in Halliday's systemic functional linguistics. Attitude system, as one of the three subsystems of evaluation theory, was proposed by Professor J. R. Martin in the 1990s. The attitude system involves people's emotions, including emotional responses, behavioral judgments and the evaluation of phenomena. It can be divided into three subsystems: emotion system, judgment system and appreciation system. In traditional sense, emotion is emotional, judgment is ethical, and appreciation is aesthetic. Many scholars at home and abroad have done a lot of research on evaluation theory. Susan Hood / 2004) Analysis of academic discourse based on evaluation theory. Wang Zhenhua (2004) borrowed attitude to systematically analyze hard news. Li Rongjuan (2005) applies the evaluation theory to explore the significance of attitude in English political column. Shan Huifang and Ding Suping (2006) studied the famous fairy tale Ugly Duckling from the perspective of evaluation theory. However, the study of character analysis based on attitude system is still not enough. This study makes a detailed analysis of the novel from the three aspects of emotion judgment and appreciation within the framework of the attitude system to explore how Jane Austen uses different attitude resources to describe Darcy's character. This study uses qualitative and quantitative analysis to describe Darcy's character. Darcy's character has two layers. On the one hand, though Darcy was well-educated, he was arrogant, arrogant, arrogant and picky. On the other hand, despite Darcy's seemingly insolent character, his heart is benevolent. He has a character of generosity, sincerity, kindness and kindness. Through corpus analysis, it is found that: The novel dialogue contains abundant resources of different attitudes which interact and influence each other to describe different aspects of Darcy's character such as insolence or charity. (2) in the attitude system, the most frequent use of judgment resources is 69.1, followed by affective resources 29.8and appreciation resources at least 1.1. This depicts Jane Austen's interest in trying to discover the character of Darcy by observing and judging Darcy's behavior. In addition, Jane Austen tends to use negative attitude resources to portray Darcy's arrogant negative image. Of all the attitude resources, 168 are negative attitude resources, and 75.6 percent are negative attitude resources. Jane Austen likes to use nominalization to confirm and reconfirm Darcy's negative character which indirectly reflects her personal attitude towards Darcy. In addition, Jane Austen tends to repeat emotional adjectives, emotional verbs and repetition techniques to describe Darcy's character. This study not only provides a new perspective for the appreciation of Jane Austen's novel language features and the characters of the protagonists, but also provides some important enlightenment for the literature teaching in the future.
