从扭曲到理性——论赫索格价值观的转变

索尔·贝娄是一位美籍犹太裔作家,是继海明威和福克纳之后美国文坛最著名的人物。他因对人类的生存以及当代文化富有独特深入的见解,而获得到了许多重要奖项,如诺贝尔文学奖,国家图书奖,普利策奖等。在他的众多作品中,《赫索格》可谓是其最成功的作品。贝娄在这部小说中塑造了一位异化的知识分子。他在生活和事业上遭遇了重重失败和挫折,内心孤独失落,并努力试图在生活中找寻一个立足点。评论者们已经做了大量关于赫索格异化问题的研究并达成这样一个共识:赫索格在经历了一段时期的流浪之后,最终心灵回归平静,生活回归安稳。然而关于赫索格为何经历如此的生活变化,评论界主要将眼光集中在社会因素,而很少涉及赫索格的主观原因。本论文将侧重点放在造成赫索格种种困境的主观原因以及为走出困境赫索格所作的主观努力上,基于后殖民主义关于身份问题的理论以及美国超验主义的精神,追踪了赫索格价值观的变化过程即从扭曲经过自省,救赎最终回归理性。首先,赫索格的观念的扭曲表现在三个方面即赫索格对身份问题的困惑,对女性的歧视以及对知识和思维的过分依赖。赫索格植根于美国社会,同时也深受犹太传统文化的影响,他无法在犹太人和美国人的双重身份中作出选择,而...
