结构主义批评视野下的《了不起的盖茨比》

《了不起的盖茨比》是美国作家F.司各特·菲茨杰拉德的代表作,小说一经出版,一向以苛刻著称的著名诗人兼文艺评论家T.S.艾略特就称之为“美国小说自亨利·詹姆斯以来迈出的第一步”。以前的研究大多关注其内容,把文章放在时代背景中去寻求它的含义,挖掘其“美国梦”破灭的主题,而很少关注《了不起的盖茨比》这个设计精巧的文本中的结构特质。本文将从结构主义理论出发,重新解读这部著作。论文分为五个章节:第一章介绍了作者的生平、小说的创作背景,对故事情节和相关的研究进行了简单描述。《了不起的盖茨比》的了不起之处在于它揭露了美国二十世纪二十年代的真实面貌,通过描写美国梦的幻灭彰显人类在前进道路上理想和现实的激烈冲突。第二章为理论研究部分。结构主义致力于文章结构理论的建立,而不是对一部特定作品的描述。这种理论是人类思维和文学作品出现的源头之所在。根据格雷马斯和托多洛夫的理论,在每个故事的深层结构中都存在着叙事语法;根据二元对立原则,不能孤立的对作品加以分析。《了不起的盖茨比》的主题、背景、人物和象征含义中都体现了二元对立的原则,文章的前后也体现整体性原则。第三章通过文本分析,归纳其叙述形式所共同遵循的“希望-...
