语域理论视角下分析贝克特戏剧

  萨缪尔·贝克特是后现代主义最有影响力的剧作家。《等待戈多》出版后,他成了荒诞派戏剧的代言人。本文选取了他的三部代表戏剧《等待戈多》、《克拉普的最后一盘录音带》、《快乐的日子》作为研究材料,应用语域理论进行了详细的语场、语旨、语式分析。语域理论是韩礼德功能语法的一个重要组成部分,为语篇分析提供了一个可操作性的理论分析框架。语场分析了三部剧的场景、主题和反应主题的语言特点。贝克特在剧中给我们展示的场景都是荒芜的、光秃的、贫瘠的,真实地影射出战后西方世界的状况。其戏剧主题表达的都是虚无、不确定、绝望、无意义、孤独异化、无能为力等。剧中使用的语言与所表现的主题高度一致。语旨分析了三部剧中的人物的角色关系和他们面对现实的态度。语气分析表明后现代的人们都处于荒原中,他们不再扮演任何角色。人物的关系是疏远的、冷漠的。情态分析揭示了剧中人物对他们的生活和现实都抱着否定、消极、不确定的态度。语式分析了三部剧中的独白、对白、沉默及其他写作技巧,表明语言已经失去它原有的交际功能。冗长的独白毫无意义、断断续续。所有的对白都毫无关联、毫无逻辑。相反,沉默比语言更有力量。贝克特也采用了特殊的叙述技巧,如循环结构,...
