　　继1952年《看不见的人》出版发行仅一年以后,艾立森获得了美国国家图书奖。若干年后,“隐身”这一概念如同“第22条军规”一样,成为英文中的一个常用词。因为《看不见的人》是一部现代主义的杰作,所以本论文重点探讨了贯穿全书的“身份探寻”这一永恒的主题,并分析了作者如何运用叙事手法来阐明这一主体的。论文的引言部分是简要的文献综述和对本科研目标的界定。论文的正文分为两个主要部分。第一部分详细分析了书中主人公的自我探寻过程,追溯了他从焦虑不安到自我欺骗再到自我醒悟的心路历程。他起步时期是一个对未来成功充满幻想的年轻人,对社会的阴暗面和人生挫折没有丝毫心理准备。然而在现实生活中,他一次又一次遭到幻灭的打击,这使他感到困惑,为世界、社会和自我的命运而担忧。这样的心理震撼使他意识到自我的渺小,这更加深了他的不安。他本能地用自我欺骗的方法来逃避现实,免得直面真实的自我,因为对自我和周边现实的冥思苦想无疑会给他带来巨大痛苦,而他需要一个缓冲。在体验了无数次的凌辱和挫败感之后,他意识到自我欺骗无济于事,也认识到他的过去、他的根以及那个他一直试图摒弃的“身份”恰恰是他的真实自我。此时他毅然接受了这个真实的自我...
