基于米勒重复理论对《吉姆老爷》中重复现象的解读与分析

　　本文以米勒的重复理论为研究基点,通过细读法对《吉姆老爷》中的多种重复现象一一进行解读和分析。米勒在《小说与重复》中指出：“任何小说都是重复和重复之中的重复的一个复杂系列,或者是以链状形式与其他重复相连的一个复杂系列。”他认为对小说这样的长篇作品的阐释,在一定程度上必须通过识别作品中的重复现象才能得以实现。米勒从规模上归纳出三类重复现象,即包括词、修辞格等言语成分的重复,事件和场景的重复以及作者的一部小说对其它小说中主题、人物和事件的重复。随后他又根据重复的性质提出两种重复形式,即柏拉图式的重复以及尼采式的重复。柏拉图式的重复的性质是以一个原型为模式,其它的实例都是这一模式的摹本。而尼采式的重复则是建立在差异基础之上的重复。《吉姆老爷》文本中有大量的重复现象。首先是言语上的重复,如“我们中的一员”就在文中出现多达数十次。通过分析可以看出这句话不仅展现出马洛对吉姆由旁观、好奇、同情再到认同的过程,同时也是康拉德本人对自己身份定位的焦虑和困惑。第二是事件上的重复。《吉姆老爷》是由很多类似的事件组成,文章的主题是关于吉姆的“帕特拿”一跳,但还有另外三“跳”是和“帕特拿”号船上的一跳密切相连的。...
