[Abstract]:The historical materialism created by Marx and Engels contains not only the idea of promoting real world change with the development of productive forces, but also the profound cultural thought. It contains the thought of guiding people from being restricted to developing freely and then changing the world by the cultural program. The interaction of the two thoughts is the unique theoretical characteristic of historical materialism. "Culture and Freedom: a study of Innovation in Historical materialism" (published by Hubei people's Publishing House in December 2016), a new book by Professor Zhang Yuan, School of Marxism, Wuhan University of Engineering, systematically studies the relationship between culture and freedom. The viewpoint of constructing the ladder of human beings to freedom with advanced culture is put forward. This book is the most important project supported by the National Social Science Foundation in the later period, "the Innovation of Historical materialism".
