[Abstract]:The image of scientists is an important part of the communication of science. The image of scientists affects whether young people will take science-related occupations as the employment direction in the future. The image of scientists has attracted the attention of researchers at home and abroad, but there is a general lack of comparative analysis of adolescents in different countries. Based on a questionnaire survey, this paper makes a comparative study of the images of scientists in the minds of middle school students in China and the United States, and finds that there are still stereotypical impressions of scientists among Chinese and American students. American middle school students are willing to become scientists because they are famous and have a good life, while Chinese middle school students are willing to become scientists because of the expectations of their parents and the attitudes of the people around them. American middle school students see scientists as only one kind of occupation, and they want to be scientists out of their personal interest. Chinese students' career choices are controlled by their parents, so the children choose science because scientists are regarded by their parents as the supreme occupation. To change this situation requires the objective report of the mass media and the correct guidance of parents and teachers in order to make teenagers understand scientists and their work correctly and make more rational choices in the face of scientific undertakings.
