商业模式创新的前因及绩效:管理决策视角

【摘要】:近年来,商业模式创新成为理论界与企业界关心的重要话题。由于商业模式创新测度上存在的难度,及商业模式创新研究的切入视角所限,商业模式创新领域仍然有大量有价值的研究问题没有得到很好的解释。现有研究主要探讨了商业模式的要素组成及其同企业战略行动之间的联系,并没有对企业决策者在商业模式创新中的作用给予重视。然而,在商业机会的相关信息转化为商业模式创新想法的形成过程,以及商业模式创新实施过程中的资源配置过程,企业的实际决策者——高层管理团队均扮演了重要角色。同时,商业模式创新的研究主要以案例形式呈现,基于大样本的定量研究相对缺乏。为了弥补这些重要缺口,本文首先以中国互联网企业为研究对象,构建了商业模式创新成功的影响因素框架。在此基础上,从决策视角切入,引入战略谋划与高管团队多样性作为商业模式创新的前因变量与作用机制的门槛变量,对商业模式创新的形成机制与作用机制进行更加深入的剖析。三个子研究从不同角度对商业模式创新的形成机制和作用机制给予了实证支持,并取得了如下的实证结果。子研究一,探讨了新兴经济体下互联网企业商业模式创新成功的因素,采用了定性和定量相结合的实证研究方法。其中,多案例研究选用陌陌科技、奇虎360、乐视网及去哪儿的四家企业作为研究对象,定量研究选用在美国上市的23家互联网企业为样本。实证分析结果说明:新兴经济体的本地化情境会对互联网企业的商业模式创新的绩效产生重要影响。具体来看,一方面,市场动态性和市场分割性越高,企业进行商业模式创新能够获得的效率绩效越低;市场竞争性越高,企业进行商业模式创新能够获得的效率绩效越高。引入高管团队多样性作为调节变量后,当高管团队职能多样性的水平越高,市场分割性对商业模式创新效率绩效之间的负向关系更强;市场竞争性对商业模式创新效率绩效之间的正向关系将更强。另一方面,市场分割性越高,企业进行商业模式创新能够获得的增长绩效越低。加入高管团队多样性为情境后,当高管团队任期多样性越高,市场分割性与商业模式创新的增长绩效之间的负向关系将更强。子研究二,探讨了战略谋划对商业模式创新的影响,以及产业动态性在其中所起的调节作用。利用中国中小板和创业板上市公司2004年至2014年间共2726个样本观察值,得到的实证结果显示:战略谋划复杂度对偏效率商业模式创新存在显著的负向作用。当企业处于产业动态性较高的环境中时,战略谋划复杂度与偏效率商业模式创新的负向关系将减弱。子研究三,探讨了商业模式创新对企业绩效的作用,以及高层管理团队多样性在其中所起的门槛作用。利用中国中小板和创业板上市公司2009年至2011年三年间共906个数据(平衡面板数据),得到的实证结果显示:高层管理团队职能多样性在偏新颖商业模式创新与企业绩效之间的关系中发挥着门槛变量的作用,而高层管理团队任期多样性则在偏效率商业模式创新与企业绩效之间的关系中扮演着门槛变量作用。具体来说,当高层管理团队职能多样性高于一定水平后,偏新颖的商业模式创新会正向显著影响企业绩效,否则没有显著影响;当高层管理团队任期多样性处于一定范围内(两个门槛值之间)时,偏效率的商业模式创新会正向显著影响企业绩效。同商业模式创新领域的现有研究相比,本文的创新点主要有以下方面:(1)研究视角上的创新。现有研究中,商业模式创新主要同技术创新或战略联系在一起。他们认为,商业模式创新能够更好地促进企业的技术商业化,或促进企业重要的战略决策更好的实施。然而,只将商业模式创新视为技术创新与战略的重要辅助工具,将导致我们对商业模式创新产生片面的认识。因为商业模式创新是企业综合考虑环境中包括技术、客户、市场等多元信息所作出的重大决策。在这个过程中,企业决策者扮演着关键的信息接收与处理的角色,对商业模式创新的形成机制与作用机制产生重要影响。所以,本文从决策视角对商业模式创新的发生机理进行分析,能够从整体上考虑商业机会的影响,并有效的填补商业模式创新与企业决策者间关系的理论空白。(2)商业模式创新研究边界的拓展。对商业模式创新的现有研究主要利用资源观、交易成本、价值网络等理论对商业模式创新的形成与作用机制进行了解释。然而,现有研究对于商业模式创新的研究主要聚焦于资源的分配和利用,并没有考虑到资源分配与利用的背后决策者——高层管理团队的作用。依据管理认知理论和高阶理论可知,商业模式创新作为企业的一项重要决策任务,高层管理团队的认知结构会对商业模式创新产生决定性影响。本文通过在商业模式创新研究中引入管理认知理论,能够极大地拓展商业模式创新的研究范围,进而增加商业模式创新对现实世界的解释力。(3)测量方法上的创新。本文首次利用客观指标建立了商业模式创新的测量方法。已有研究对商业模式创新的测度主要采用问卷量表。然而,该问卷的有效性仍然需要在更多行业与情境中进行验证。商业模式创新并非是一个主观意义上的心理活动构念,利用客观指标进行商业模式创新的测量在理论层面同样具有重要的意义。本文的测度方法不仅有利于商业模式创新在更多行业中的研究开展,同时也使得商业模式创新研究领域产生更多的定量研究成为可能。
