[Abstract]:English has become a global language. English is widely used in international political, economic and cultural cooperation. Therefore, in many important conferences and international occasions, there are speakers whose native language is non-English speaking in English. Their strong accent brings great troubles to the interpreters, and also increases the psychological burden. According to Daniel Gill's communicative cognitive model, interpreters devote a considerable amount of their energy to listening and analysis when dealing with accented English, slowing down output or causing a certain amount of information loss. Thus affecting the quality of the translation. Therefore, it is very meaningful to study how accent affects the performance of interpreters and put forward corresponding strategies. With the help of Daniel Gill's cognitive load model and understanding equation, this paper aims to study how accents affect the quality of interpreters and final translations in the process of communication, and draw a conclusion through experiments and questionnaires. The corresponding countermeasures are put forward. The article is divided into six chapters: the first chapter introduction; the second chapter literature review; the third chapter theoretical basis; the fourth chapter experimental research; the fifth chapter experimental results and analysis; the sixth chapter summary. Based on the results of comparative experiments and questionnaires, this study draws the following conclusions: speakers with accents do have a negative impact on the performance of interpreters. The ways to deal with accent problems and improve translation quality include language skills and external knowledge. The language skill is to deeply understand the accent characteristics of the speaker, that is, the pronunciation rule of the speaker's mother tongue, and the knowledge outside the language includes encyclopedia knowledge and situational knowledge.
