中美文化视角下会话中的沉默研究

【摘要】：语言是人们相互沟通的桥梁，没有语言，什么都不能做。人们说话时候词汇的选择、声音的大小以及说话的语气等等都能传递出某种信息。不可否认，言语在我们的生活中发挥了巨大的作用。因而，话语成了越来越多学者研究的话题。然而，在生活中也会经常遇到这样一些现象。比如，人们正交谈着，忽然就出现了沉默，甚至有时候人们沉默的同时还伴随一些手势、触摸和表情等等。正如中国俗语所说的“此时无声胜有声”，沉默并不意味着说话人没话可说，而是传递了一些言语无法表达的信息。 关于“沉默”的研究可以追溯到二十世纪初，主要集中在语言学领域。从七十年代开始，人们一直从语用学角度研究“沉默”。他们主要研究会话沉默，沉默的分类和功能，以及沉默在课堂的应用。后来，学者们将文化引入，研究沉默和文化。然而，早些的研究只倾向于描述，并非从理论角度提出实际的解决措施。因此，，本论文将对比研究“沉默”在英汉会话中的应用。通过比较，作者发现，中国人在对话中比美国人更频繁地用到沉默。即使沉默在中美两种文化里都有应用，但差异很大。所以，本文重点研究沉默的差异性以及如何消除差异引起的误解。本论文包括四章。第一章是文献综述，分为三部分：第一部分，介绍沉默的定义、动机和功能；第二部分，介绍国内外关于沉默的研究情况以及对过去研究进行评论；第三部分：介绍沉默和会话的关系、沉默和文化的关系。第二章是本论文的重点，即，比较中美会话，总结沉默在这些会话中的相似性和差异性。第三章从文化视角分析沉默差异性的原因。根据文化的内在逻辑，文化被分为四个层面：物质文化、制度文化、心态文化和行为文化。作为一种浅层次文化，物质文化容易改变。所以，本论文从其余三个文化层面进行分析。第四章主要提出建设性策略，以避免中美会话中沉默造成的误会。 本论文旨在让人们意识到沉默具有重要意义并给予重视。因为影视作品来源于生活，所以作者通过比较多部影视作品进行研究。作者希望该研究不仅可以扩大沉默理论的应用领域，而且能引起人们对沉默的关注并激发各个领域的学者对其进行更深入的研究。
