试论霍克思英译《红楼梦》的创新

【摘要】： 《红楼梦》可谓是中国文学史上一颗璀璨的明珠,在中国国内家喻户晓。自从19世纪初,《红楼梦》第一次被译成外语,即昭示着新的一页历史又被掀开了。从此,《红楼梦》开始迈出国门,走向世界。迄今为止,《红楼梦》各种译本已不下六十种,而在所有的译本中,霍克思的英译本不愧为最优秀的之一。霍译本不但语言精确,文字优美,更重要的是,它处处都体现了一种创新性。 在以往研究霍译本的论文中,涉及译本创新的并不多。因此,本文最鲜明的特点,即在于以霍译本的创新为研究对象,期望通过将译本与原著和其他译本进行对比,尽可能地展现其创新性。鉴于此,这里所说的创新,实际包含了两层意思:一是霍译本对原著进行的再创造,二是霍译本较之其他译本表现出的独创性。本文将由以下四个部分构成。 引论首先回顾了《红楼梦》英译本的概况,并且简要介绍了霍克思及其英译本的情况。 第一章论述霍译本对原著的再创造。其中第一节解决了译本的底本选择问题;第二节则从修正原著的疏漏和消除文化的差异两个方面重点分析了译本对原著进行的再创造。 第二章论述霍译本较之其他译本的独创性。其中第一节从分卷方式、汉语拼音说明、序言和附录等四个方面分析了译本体例的独创性;第二节从书名的翻译、人名的翻译以及双关语的翻译等三个方面分析了译本译法的独创性。 结语部分对全文作了一个归纳性的总结。
[Abstract]:A Dream of Red Mansions is a bright pearl in the history of Chinese literature. A Dream of Red Mansions has been translated into a foreign language for the first time since the beginning of the 19 th century. Since then, the Dream of Red Mansions began to step out of the country, to the world. So far, there are more than 60 versions of the Dream of the Red Mansions, of which Hawkes' English translation is worthy of one of the best. Huo's translation is not only accurate in language and beautiful in writing, but also embodies an innovation everywhere. In the past studies on the translation of Huo, there are not many related to the innovation of the translation. Therefore, the most distinctive feature of this paper is to take the innovation of Huo translation as the object of study, hoping to show its innovation as far as possible by comparing the original version with the original version and other versions. In view of this, the innovation mentioned here actually contains two levels of meaning: one is the recreation of the original works by the Huo version, the other is the originality of the Huo translation compared with the other versions. This article will consist of the following four parts. The introduction first reviews the English version of A Dream of Red Mansions and briefly introduces Hawkes and his English translation. The first chapter discusses the recreation of the original works in Huo's translation. The first section solves the problem of choosing the original version, the second section focuses on the re-creation of the original work from the aspects of correcting the omission of the original work and eliminating the cultural differences. Chapter two discusses the originality of Huo's translation compared with other versions. The first section analyzes the originality of the translation style from four aspects: the way of dividing volumes, the Chinese phonetic description, the preface and the appendix, and the second section analyzes the translation of the title of the book. This paper analyzes the originality of translation from three aspects: the translation of personal names and the translation of puns. The conclusion part makes a summary of the full text.
