【摘要】：《庄子》作为道家学说的代表作是中国古典文学的瑰宝。其恣肆汪洋的想象和绮丽优美的语言几百年来为世人称道。它所呈现的博大精深的哲理对于当代社会也大有裨益。书中丰富的意象奇特诡异,意蕴深远,是众多寓言故事的主角。它们投射了作者的情感、信念、思想,具有深刻的寓意。深入领会意象的深层含义,对于理解《庄子》的哲学思想是必不可少的。因此,准确翻译这些变化多端,仪态万千的意象对于译者而言是极大的挑战。 2000年,Verschueren在他的著作《语用学诠释》一书中首次提出顺应理论,为语用学的研究提供了全新的视角。根据顺应理论,使用语言是一种不断选择的过程,语言的选择是指从语境和语言结构上动态地根据不同的心理意识程度做出某种顺应,选择可能发生在语言结构每一个层面上。在语言交流的过程中,语境是一个相当重要的因素,语言使用者在理解和使用语言时要顺应语境相关因素。翻译是一种跨文化的交际活动,两种语言符号的转换不仅关系到语言自身,还与语言之外的各种因素息息相关。译文语言的选择也是做出动态顺应的过程,译者在翻译过程中要时刻顺应两种语言的不同语境。本文将顺应理论中的语境顺应运用到意象翻译中,试图从语用学视角对研究翻译行为的可行性加以佐证。参照陈植鄂教授关于意象的分类标准,笔者对《庄子》中的典型意象进行了系统的分类并概括其特点,指出它们蕴含的深层意义。从顺应理论的语境顺应的视角出发,深入研究Watson在翻译意象的过程中如何通过选择合适的语言,对交际语境中的心理世界、社交世界及物理世界做出顺应。最后笔者对Watson采用的翻译原则以及其译文特点进行了概括。通过研究发现,Watson在翻译的过程中注重原文的忠实性和译文的可读性。在此原则之下,从语境的不同方面做出了合适的语言选择。其译文语言流畅通顺,简单明了,具有很强的可读性。本文旨在通过对Watson版《庄子》中意象翻译的语境顺应研究,一方面为《庄子》的翻译研究提出新的视角；另一方面为其他译者进行意象翻译提供借鉴。
