从顺应论视角看莫言《师傅越来越幽默》的英译

【摘要】：莫言是中国当代著名作家,于2012年10月11日获得诺贝尔文学奖,是首位获得该奖的中国籍作家。莫言作品得以在海外广泛传播与葛浩文对其作品的翻译是密不可分的。国内外学者主要集中于对莫言长篇小说的研究,而且多从文学角度展开,鲜有对其中篇小说的翻译做全面系统的研究。《师傅越来越幽默》是莫言最具代表性的中篇小说之一。因此本文借助顺应论这一理论框架来研究葛浩文对《师傅越来越幽默》的英译,以便更好地解释顺应论对翻译的指导作用。顺应论是比利时学者维索尔伦在著作《语用学新解》中提出的理论,被认为是一个非常具有解释力及应用价值的语用学理论,为语用学的研究提供了全新的视角。顺应论的核心是语言使用是一个动态顺应的过程,人们在动态过程中不断做出动态选择。翻译过程是一个不断进行动态选择的过程。一部好的翻译作品要能够有效地顺应原文本的语言、文化和社会信息。本文主要从语境顺应角度对译本进行研究分析,语境分为语言语境和交际语境,前者包括篇内衔接、互文性和线性序列,后者包括心理世界、社交世界和物理世界。本文主要研究译者在翻译过程中使用了什么翻译方法来实现交际语境的顺应以及怎样处理语言语境中的中国文化词来表现师傅的幽默。通过定性研究分析发现:译者主要采用直译、直译加注的方法处理社交世界中俗语的翻译;用意译、省略、替代的翻译方法顺应心理世界、物理世界以及社交世界中文化负载词的翻译,有效地处理汉英文化的差异,更好地传达交际信息,顺应交际语境,使目标读者更容易接受。在顺应语言语境的翻译方面,译者主要采用音译、直译加注和增译的翻译方法,忠实的再现和传达原文信息,保留原文风格,生动地表现了师傅的幽默。为了达到更好的翻译效果,译者必须考虑语言语境和交际语境的各种情况以实现语境的动态顺应。研究莫言《师傅越来越幽默》的英译本进一步证实了顺应论对翻译具有很强的解释力。对该译本的研究还可以让读者体会到特定时代中国文化的特点,有利于中国文化的传播。
