【摘要】：中国美术现代化研究之根本是现代转型，即中国美术如何从传统走向现代。本文立足中国文化本位的立场，以运动陈述的方式，力图体现中国美术现代化过程中的主流话语，并在种种阶段性规定中，确定各自的主题。中国美术现代化运动的基本性质是自设自叙，但每一次运动又在不同层面以不同的方式与西学发生关系，又在不同角度质问传统，解构传统。中国现代美术的运动进程并非现代主题的“单线绵延”，并非以“分幕”的方式展开，也许用“分场”的概念更为合适。分幕，是时间接续的概念；分场，是空间转换的概念。现代中国美术的每一运动，，其前后接续的时间不等，每个系列的运动并非一一首尾相连，其错综复杂的程度也实在各不相等。也许在某个时期，运动的发生与发展会呈现前后因果关系的逻辑连接，但更多的时候是相错展开，同时存在，共同发展。本文把握运动发生之头绪，以此揭示整体演进序列中文化范式的替变关系。本文以比较研究为基础，采用结构理论，在现象的铺排与陈述中，寻找并呈现事物内在的逻辑联系。本文叙述框架中的两个基本命题是：（一）中国美术现代化是现代化和反现代化两种力量相互作用的产物；（二）中国美术现代化是内发的多向歧生的模式系统。因此，本文将中国美术的现代化作为多个共在体在现代情境中的动态交换来研究，提出“资源重组”和多模式的研究方法，提出“外来冲奇内部反应—结构整合”的理论分析图式，并充分注意现代美术发展中的非主流因素。本文认为多模式的共在互生，使中国美术从传统到现代成为连续性的行为，传统与现代在经验世界中只是相对性的结构。本文在具体陈述中，注重第一手的文献与图像资料，对现时诸家之说，时有厘正。
