【摘要】： 本文从艺术功能的分析入手，通过理论研究与个案分析相结合的方法，对艺术功能、艺术的多元功能和价值补偿、艺术惯例、艺术概念如何界定，艺术风格演进的实质以及艺术研究和美学研究的方法等问题进行思考，并给出了自己的一些看法。本文所有内容分为三个部分，第一部分主要通过艺术多元功能和艺术惯例的讨论进行艺术概念即艺术学研究对象的界定。艺术的功能，即艺术的价值，是多元的，这决定了对艺术进行一种本质主义的界定是不现实的。要想对艺术这种开放型概念进行有意义的界定就必须换一种思考的方式，从而在多元功能和艺术惯例的层面上界定一种开放型概念。第二部分则主要以第一部分论述的艺术功能论和惯例说的视角，结合现代小说功能演变的个案分析探讨艺术史和艺术研究方法问题。这又主要包括以下两个方面：（1）通过不同艺术惯例下艺术功能发展的不平衡性对艺术风格及其演变的实质进行史的研究；（2）强调一种功能——形式的艺术学研究方法。文章的最后一部分则应用艺术功能论的思想反思艺术研究中存在的某些突出问题。总之，本文不仅讨论了艺术的价值和功能以及艺术功能的划分和界定等问题，更主要地还是尝试借助对艺术功能的思考探讨一系列艺术学基础问题如艺术概念的界定（艺术研究的对象）、艺术风格的流变（艺术史）以及艺术研究的方法（方法论）等等，以一种本体的、多元的、历史的眼光重新审视艺术功能问题，从而力求深化对艺术自身的理解，深化对美学和艺术学的学科基础的理解。笔者相信只有这样方能产生一门真正具有现实阐释力的有用的理论学科。
