卡特福德语境翻译思想研究

【摘要】：卡特福德是翻译研究语言学派的先驱，，是第一个把语境理论运用于翻译研究的学者。针对卡特福德出现了很多研究，但这些研究均局限于他的翻译转换理论、等值理论或是可译性限度，他的语境翻译思想少有人研究过。卡特福德的语境理论是什么样子以及依据其翻译理论语境在翻译过程中是如何运作的这两个问题没有得到解决。因此，对以上两个问题展开研究很有必要。 本文从三个大的方面进行讨论：卡特福德的语境思想，卡特福德对语境翻译的理论认识，以及对卡特福德语境翻译思想的评价。首先，运用描述性研究法、文献法和定性研究法对卡特福德语境的定义、分类、源头、本质和特征展开研究，并澄清了其中的几个术语。其次，运用描述性研究法和定性研究法对卡特福德的语境翻译的理论性认识进行研究。主要有以下几个方面：研究他对语境与翻译等值的建立、语境与意义的生成或转移及语境与可译性限度等的关系的一般认识，以及建立卡特福德语境翻译运作的模型。这个模型包含两个大步骤：确立实体的共同体和建立翻译等值。在建立翻译等值时又有三个小步骤：匹配建等值，重组建等值和创造“等值”。这三个小步骤中都涉及语境在各语言层间及语言变体间的运作研究。再次，运用定性研究法对卡特福德语境翻译思想实施评价。研究揭示了卡特福德所采用的研究方法对翻译研究和翻译质量评价的重大贡献，以及卡特福德对翻译和不可译的独到分类、对翻译转换的开创性研究的重大意义。同时，研究也揭示了诸如他局限于语境的静态性和先在性、排除心理因素等语境理论上的局限性，以及忽视主观因素、翻译等值建立过程中存在不确定性等语境翻译理论上的不足。最后，本研究得出如下结论：卡特福德的语境有其自身特点、在其翻译理论中起着必不可少的作用；他倾向于在语境中翻译，与现在的翻译语境化相似。 通过对长久以来被忽视的领域——卡特福德语境翻译思想的深入研究，本文发现卡特福德的语境在定义、分类、源头、本质和特征上都有其自身特点；在翻译过程中，语境在各语言层间及语言变体间的翻译上起着不可或缺的作用，据此可构建卡特福德语境翻译模型。本研究挖掘了卡特福德的语境翻译思想，以期增强卡特福德研究的完整性。它有益于人们客观地和综合性地认识卡特福德的理论。另外，研究中的发现或许能给语境翻译领域的学者些许启示、促进该领域的向前发展。再者，研究中的一些发现，诸如卡特福德采用统计学的方法进行翻译等值研究，他倾向于为机器翻译建立“翻译算法”等，可能会有助于语料库翻译研究和机器翻译研究。
