明治时代的文科大学生“三四郎”的迷茫和觉醒

【摘要】：夏目漱石的小说《三四郎》描写了主人公小川三四郎从熊本乡下进京上学的故事。作为东京帝国大学的精英学生,伴随着他的校园生活的展开,明治末期的帝国大学的大学生生活以及他们的成长也在我们读者的眼前慢慢展开画卷。历来,论述《三四郎》的论文多以三四郎和女主人公美弥子的恋爱展开。本论文暂时搁置三四郎的恋爱经历,以三四郎对自己的文科大学生的身份的认知入手,结合社会历史考察来解读文本。三四郎在进京的火车上遇到了广田先生。通过三四郎的心理活动我们得知此时三四郎对自己将来生活的期许非常高。并因此对广田先生略显平淡的态度感到不足。本论文由小说开头这段描写出发,考察了明治时期的教育改革,对东京帝国大学在小说中背景时间的明治末期的地位进行了考察,并进一步挖掘了日俄战争之后引发的高等游民问题(高学历人士无法找到工作)。三四郎入学后见到有一些同学在谈论当年并不乐观的就职情况。小说如实反映了当时文科大学生的生活境况。与此同时,作为功利主义的反面,明治末期,在东京帝国大学里开始酝酿这教养主义的风潮。而文科大学恰恰成了重视文史哲素养的教养主义的庭院。然而,文科大学生在强调追求教养的同时,内心深处却时时在面对因现实的无力而引发的纠葛。三四郎的好友与次郎将文科大学生的这一面发挥地淋漓尽致,却一败涂地。同样期待着身份阶层的跃升的三四郎和与次郎采取的不同的策略,在清楚认清自己所幻想的未来是不可实现的事实之后,走向了广田先生式的教育主义生活态度。三四郎在小说中的表现算不上有魅力,乃至看似迟钝、无知。然而笔者认为小说结尾处他身上体现出的改变,正是三四郎的觉醒。三四郎最终获得了广田先生的肯定。这也体现出了作者夏目漱石对下一代青年的殷切期待吧。

Sanshiro's performance in the novel is not glamorous, even seemingly dull and ignorant. However, the author thinks that the change reflected in him at the end of the novel is Sanshiro's awakening. Sansichiro finally won the affirmation of Mr. Hiroda. This also reflects the author's ardent expectations for the next generation of young people.
