“丰裕社会”中的“另一个美国”——从《霍默和兰利》看当代美国城市贫困

【摘要】：当代美国著名犹太裔作家E.L.多克托罗的《霍默和兰利》(2009)以上世纪40年代发生在纽约的科利尔兄弟的故事为素材来进行加工,艺术而又真实地再现了当代美国城市贫困人士在"自助"的文化环境中的悲惨处境,从而构成了对当代美国社会现实的有力批判。通过探讨美国的"自助"文化及其衍生的福利制度,结合作品分析,可以发现《霍默和兰利》揭示了当代美国"丰裕社会"中由城市贫困人群组成的"另一个美国"的真实存在及其被政府和主流社会忽略甚至是"垃圾化"处理的现状,从而使得他们陷入一种贫困亚文化而自生自灭。
[Abstract]:E. L. Doctorow's "Homer and Langley" (2009), the story of the Collier brothers in New York in the 1940s, is used for processing. The art reproduces the tragic situation of the urban poor in the "self-help" cultural environment, and thus constitutes a powerful criticism of the contemporary American social reality. By exploring the "self-help" culture of the United States and its derived welfare system, combined with the analysis of the works, It can be found that Homer and Langley reveal the real existence of "another America", which is composed of the urban poor in the "affluent society" of the contemporary United States, and the fact that it has been ignored by the government and the mainstream society and even treated as "garbage". As a result, they fell into a poor subculture and died on their own.
