贵格教对17-19世纪美国文学的影响研究

基督教新教是美国多元宗教信仰体系中最为重要的组成部分。贵格教作为新教在特定历史时期的重要分支,既发展了基督教的总体思想内容,又凸显出了其独特的个性色彩,其教义和生活方式对美国社会文化产生了深远的影响。论文以文学社会学为视角,以贵格教的发展史为基线,分析十七世纪至十九世纪期间贵格教思想的演变及其对同时期美国文学的影响,力图较为全面地呈现贵格教对美国文学影响的各个侧面。论文的特点是在文学文本及其历史语境的互动框架下,分析贵格教对美国文学的影响。基于历史证据的强度,论文将影响分为显性影响和隐性影响。前者包括贵格徒作家;家人或朋友是贵格徒,并且有历史证据证明确实受到贵格教影响的作家。后者包括其文学文本呈现鲜明贵格教影响痕迹,或在其它文本中提及贵格教影响的非贵格徒作家。贵格教在北美的曲折发展对同时期的美国文学产生了重要影响。十七世纪中叶到十七世纪末是贵格教的创立时期,这一时期贵格教思想广泛传播,贵格教教徒也因此受到抨击和迫害。贵格教的杰出领袖威廉·佩恩创作出许多贵格教经典作品,强烈谴责宗教迫害,呼吁宗教宽容和宗教自由,文学成了贵格教思想的主要宣传工具。十八世纪是贵格教发展的鼎盛时期,贵格教致力于...
