人性战胜神性:对《红字》的精神分析式解读

本文借助弗洛伊德的精神分析理论,探究霍桑《红字》中人性与神性的激烈冲突。《红字》是美国文学史的一座丰碑,极富想象力,对人性进行了深入的探讨。从小说人物身上,可以看到驱使人类行善作恶的种种冲动。在本文中,这些或好或坏的冲动即人性。从这个意义上来说,它接近于弗洛伊德所说的本我。与人性相对的是神性。在本文中,神性是指清教在其民众心中灌输的宗教信仰和道德观念。它决定了小说人物对正邪善恶的道德判断,并深刻影响其思想与行为。从这个意义上来说,神性即弗洛伊德称所指的超我。本文运用弗洛伊德人格结构理论,分析《红字》中本我与超我的激烈冲突以及人性与神性的斗争,更能体现人物复杂的心理活动。此外,本文还运用了弗洛伊德的升华理论。在《红字》中,海斯特的本我升华为对真爱、美和自由的崇高追求;丁梅斯戴尔深受超我或神性的桎梏,沦为神性的牺牲品;齐灵沃斯最后给予珠儿宽容与遗产,摆脱神性束缚,回归人性;珠儿是生于清教社会但不受其教义的浸染,某种程度上,正是本我和人性的现实象征。结构上,本文分为五个部分。前两部分是导论和文献综述。第三部分讨论了弗洛伊德的人格结构理论和升华理论及其在本文中的运用。第四部分分析小说中四个主要...
