从会话分析角度解读《榆树下的欲望》中人物关系与性格

会话分析是20世纪60、70年代从美国发展起来的一门学科,其主旨在于揭示日常言语交际中固有的会话结构模式。作为会话分析的核心,话轮转换理论通常用来研究日常对话。作为戏剧的载体,戏剧对话也遵循日常会话的一般规律。本研究基于话轮转换理论,旨在探讨戏剧中人物之间的关系与性格。《榆树线下的欲望》是尤金·奥尼尔的代表作之一,被誉为“美国第一部伟大的悲剧”。目前就《榆树下的欲望》的研究多基于女性主义,象征主义等文学批评理论。本研究以《榆树下的欲望》中最能体现主要人物之间关系及性格的四组对话为研究语料,从话轮转换的角度对这些对话进行了分析。研究发现:一,父亲卡特和小儿子伊本的父子关系是冷漠的,缺乏亲情的。在二人的对话中,卡博特多次发起话轮吸引伊本的注意力并使用了较长话轮的策略控制话语权,而伊本大多以次选回答作为回应。同时,伊本也主动发话讽刺卡博特来达到控制话语权的目的,最后二人甚至因言语不和而发生了肢体冲突。在交流中,卡博特冷酷自私的性格以及伊本倔强的性格也得以展现;二,丈夫卡博特和妻子艾比夫妻之间的感情缺少真爱,是靠对物质的欲望来维系的,因而导致了他们病态的夫妻关系。在节选的对话中,艾比起初对卡博...
