[Abstract]:Kipling, as the first Englishman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, has been criticized from all over the world for his imperialist tendencies, regardless of his special life experience and background of his time. It would be unfair to label him imperialist. < Kim > is not just Kipling's most successful novel. This is the last novel he has written in India. The study of Kim undoubtedly helps people understand Kipling better. Scholars began to explore Kim from various angles when they noticed the value of his research. But few scholars focus on the image of the little man described in Kim. In colonial discourse. The white and natives at the bottom, whether they are passing by or appearing in stereotypical images, at least reveal that the path to colonization is not plain sailing. This paper will analyze the image of subordinate in Kim from the perspective of post-colonization. This paper is divided into three chapters. The first chapter aims to analyze the image of white men at the bottom. Kim and the white soldiers belong to the "subordinates" defined by Gramsci. They are all dependent. A leader of the ruling class. Kim was an Irish from a poor white family. On the one hand, he was a good imperial agent with the potential to become an imperial elite. On the other hand, he loved India. To return to life in India. From time to time break the shackles of the imperial rules. The life of the white soldiers in the colony was so hard and sympathetic. But their narrow racial outlook was abhorrent. By analyzing their images and comparing them. We can see Kipling's contradictory class view and his critique of pure English sex. The second chapter discusses the image of native male. In the post-colonial study. "subordinates" are used to emphasize the colonized. In "Kim", Kipling divides such people into two categories. One refers to the servants of the imperial system, though they are excellent imperial servants. But they showed a tendency that they could not be completely loyal to the British Empire. Another category refers to natives outside the imperial system. Both negative and positive Indians appear in Kim. Some native male images. Kipling's contradictory view of racism is exposed. Chapter three studies the image of women. The colony's white women are relatively stereotyped, while the Indian women's images are relatively plump. White women appear as weak and humble images. The image of Indian women is multidimensional. Although they are potentially dangerous to the success of men's careers, they are also helpers of the British Empire. The images of Kim's subordinates show us the contradiction of Kipling. Kipling does not portray his subordinates entirely in clich 茅 s, which reflects his view of class prevailing in the British Empire. Secondly, as the oriental text written by western writers, Kim presents us with a colorful oriental view. To some extent, this has broken through said's "Orientalism". However, Kipling was unable to completely free himself from the influence of imperialist thinking. His dissatisfaction with the British Empire and the possible threat to it made him anxious. And he hinted that cultural integration was a viable way to maintain the British Empire's rule in India.
