《幸福会》与《邻居》中身份探寻主题之比较

【摘要】:谭恩美是最富有影响力的美国华裔女作家之一。她的第一部作品也即她的代表作《喜福会》一经发表就获得了评论界和读者的广泛关注。她擅长刻画移民母亲和土生土长在美国的女儿们之间的矛盾和冲突用以揭示华裔在美国进行身份探寻的艰辛历程。在她已经发表了的作品中都是用存在于移民母亲和她们的女儿们之间的矛盾冲突来展开脉络的。同时,在谈到美国少数族裔文学时,另一位犹太裔移民作家艾萨克·巴什维新·辛格将会走入我们的视线。他能够获得今天的成就并不仅仅因为他在1978年获得了诺贝尔文学奖,更是因为他特殊的创作源流。他所关注的不仅是经过二战之后失去家园移民到美国的波兰犹太人的境况,更是反映了整个人类面临的普遍处境。他在长篇小说和短篇小说方面均有建树,但他本人和评论界都认为他的短篇小说更为出色。他的短篇小说大致可以分为两类:一类是充满了浪漫神秘色彩的精灵世界;另一类是表现犹太人在现代,特别是在二战后的生存状态的“现代”小说。本文针对于辛格短篇小说第二类进行研究。国内外学者对于这两部作品研究的角度有很多,比如从种族、写作风格、主题、跨文化、女性主义、后殖民主义、神话原型以及叙事结构等方面进行研究。但就主题而言,有从文化的角度分析《喜福会》中“沉默”这一主题;也有从社会和历史的角度出发,依据文本分析,围绕辛格短篇小说的主题,探讨小说家的宗教观的作品。但从身份探寻主题去分析的较少,所以本论文拟从身份探寻角度对谭恩美的《喜福会》和辛格的《邻居》两部作品进行对比研究。阐述了他们在重塑身份过程中在新环境中的挣扎,以及情感上从困惑到觉醒的过程。华裔和犹太裔移民均属于美国的少数族裔,他们特殊的文化身份决定了他们只能处于边缘位置的尴尬境地。同时这种处境也决定了他们在融入美国主流社会的过程中必然会存在很多的相同点。但是二者毕竟又属于不同的族裔,有着不同传统文化、价值观和宗教信仰等,所以在他们重建身份的过程中也必然会表现出很多的不同之处。《喜福会》是以母女间的和解作为故事的结尾的,说明中美文化存在共存共荣的可能性但是却并不意味着华裔美国人已经找到了重建身份的方法。辛格作品的宗旨大部分都是呼吁宗教的回归,但也强调文化冲突对生活在美国犹太社区的犹太人精神世界的冲击,以《邻居》中三位主人公的遭遇为例。这种文化差异导致的结果是故事的主人公最终只能孤独的在精神的荒原中苦苦挣扎。
[Abstract]:Amy Tan is one of the most influential Chinese American women writers. Her first work, the Joy Luck Club, has received wide attention from critics and readers since it was published. She is good at portraying conflicts and conflicts between immigrant mothers and daughters born in the United States to reveal the difficult process of identity search for Chinese in the United States. In her published works, the context is unfolded by conflicts between immigrant mothers and their daughters. Meanwhile, when it comes to American minority literature, another Jewish immigrant writer, Isaac Bashvishin Singh, will come to our attention. He was able to achieve his achievements not only because he won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1978, but also because of his special source of creation. His concern was not only the situation of Polish Jews who had lost their homes and emigrated to the United States after World War II, but also the general situation facing mankind as a whole. He has made great achievements in both novels and short stories, but he himself and critics think his short stories are better. His short stories can be divided into two categories: one is the fairy world which is full of romantic and mysterious color; the other is the "modern" novel which expresses the Jewish living state in modern times, especially after World War II. This paper studies the second kind of short stories of Yu Singh. Scholars at home and abroad have studied the two works from many angles, such as race, writing style, theme, cross-culture, feminism, post-colonialism, mythological archetype and narrative structure. But as far as the theme is concerned, there is a cultural analysis of the theme of "silence" in Joy Luck Club, as well as a discussion of the works of the novelist's religious views from the perspective of society and history, and according to the text analysis, around the theme of Singh's short stories. However, the theme of identity seeking is seldom analyzed, so this thesis intends to make a comparative study of Amy Tan's Joy Luck Club and Singh's neighbor from the perspective of identity seeking. This paper expounds their struggle in the process of reconstructing their identity in the new environment, and their emotional process from confusion to awakening. Both ethnic Chinese and Jewish immigrants belong to the minorities of the United States, their special cultural status determines that they can only be on the edge of the awkward situation. At the same time, this situation also determines that they must have a lot of similarities in the process of integration into mainstream American society. But after all, they belong to different ethnic groups and have different traditional cultures, values, religious beliefs, etc. So there's bound to be a lot of difference in the process of rebuilding their identity. The Joy Luck Club ends the story with a reconciliation between mother and daughter. The possibility of co-prosperity in Chinese and American culture does not mean that Chinese Americans have found a way to rebuild their identity. The purpose of Singh's works is mostly to call for the return of religion, but it also emphasizes the impact of cultural conflict on the Jewish spiritual world living in the Jewish community in the United States, taking the experiences of the three protagonists in Neighbourhood as an example. The result of this cultural difference is that the hero of the story struggles alone in the spiritual wilderness.
