[Abstract]:Fiction was one of the most popular literary genres in the 19 th century and was popular with the public. After a long history in the male-dominated literary world, many female novelists emerged in the 19th century, such as Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, George Eliot and so on. In their works, they create many new images of women fighting against male power, fighting for freedom and striving for equality with men. For example, Jane Austen's satire on social customs at that time, the affirmation of women's wisdom and identity, the Bronte sisters' true revelation of women's living conditions at that time, their independence for women, and the encouragement of equal rights of love and rebellious spirit. Their struggle for equality and freedom, at different stages, is considered the evolution of Western feminine consciousness. The Dream of Red Mansions is a great Chinese novel, which depicts women and their activities. Cao Xueqin portrays many excellent female characters with his unique perspective and comprehensive description, and perspective out the psychological world of women. It shows the self-consciousness and rebellious spirit of women in Chinese feudal society. This article contrasts and analyzes the typical female characters in the three works, and analyzes the rebellious spirit, the desire for independence and the free love view of the female characters. They were all given a new female image by the author. But there are also differences, different personality characteristics, in different times and social background. So their ending must be different. Cao Xueqin's Qing Wen and Bronte's Jane Eyre both have a rebellious spirit and pursue independence and equality. And Austin's Elizabeth and Lin Daiyu both pursue the love they yearn for. Their images are lifelike, reflecting the characteristics of the development of women's consciousness in different periods, and implying the authors' real intention in writing. At the same time, the era and cultural background also give these women the limitations of the development of consciousness. Guided by the theory of feminist literary criticism, the purpose of this paper is to make a comparative study of the female consciousness of women's roles in two different social backgrounds. For example, Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre in Jane Eyre, Lin Daiyu and Qingwen in A Dream of Red Mansions. The author highly values the rebellious spirit of these female characters, although they live in different societies, cling to different classes and resist different rulers. Finally, Jane Eyre, the rebellious spirit of the female characters in Pride and Prejudice and the pursuit of independence promoted the development of the female consciousness in the 19th century in England. The excellent female characters in A Dream of Red Mansions fully reveal the spiritual world and cultural character of Chinese women in feudal times.
