从19世纪伦敦看狄更斯的城市观

　　伴随着2010中国上海世博会“城市,让生活更美好”的举办,城市化再次得到全球范围的关注。城市是文化的孕育所,文化是城市的生命。美国城市规划思想家刘易斯·芒福德认为城市的根本功能在于文化积累,文化创新,在于留传文化,教育人民。城市文化的构成状况决定着社会制度和人类个体。维多利亚时代的英国是世界第一工业强国,工业生产能力比全世界的总和还大。城市化是工业社会的一大标志,生产的发展带动了经济和社会生活观念和生活方式的变化。城市化带来财富的同时也带来了许多社会问题,如人口膨胀,住房紧缺,环境污染,道德下降,人情冷漠等。生活在19世纪维多利亚时代的英国作家狄更斯对城市寄予了极大关注。他的小说写作背景大多设置在伦敦,字里行间流露出浓郁的城市气息。作为一名富有良知和责任心的作家,他深切关注人民大众的生活状态,以及工业化带来的城市问题。从狄更斯的小说分析他的城市观,他对于城市的描写基调灰暗,从对城市肮脏,混乱的景物描写到教育,司法,监狱制度的种种弊端,再到人际关系的尔虞我诈,唯利是图,总体上狄更斯对城市持悲观,厌恶态度,强调城市的复杂和混乱,批判工业污染和管理制度的弊端以及道德下降,但是他并不反对工业进步的积极面。同时,他宣扬人道主义,提倡博爱。
