艾丽丝·沃克是美国当代文坛最著名的黑人女性作家之一。其巅峰之作《紫色》兼有黑人文学和妇女文学的双重特性,深刻揭露了黑人妇女在男权统治下所遭受的种族主义和性别主义双重压迫。小说卓越之处并非简单表现黑人与白人的冲突,而在于探索黑人之间的内部矛盾,从而指明解决美国黑人困境的出路。本文试用心理分析和女性主义心理分析理论来重读沃克的经典作品《紫色》旨在揭示沃克的妇女主义的伟大理想—黑人民族的完整生存。全文着重从两条线索进行分析:一是探寻黑人男性从摆脱其劣根性到重新回归人性的转变历程;二是茜莉情感历程的完美过渡—从地狱的梦魇走向天堂的幸福。论文指出沃克奏响了一部人性与爱情的乐曲,黑人男性只有摆脱其既是受害者又是压迫者的畸形身份,摈弃自己身上的奴性和兽性,打破男权统治的羁绊,才能回归人性去尊重黑人女性,最终携手共建美好家园。而黑人女性在从麻木走向觉醒的艰难历程中,彰显了其特有的忍耐和包容,团结和智慧,以及自强不息的可贵品质。女主人公茜莉用爱消融了积怨已久的仇恨,发挥了自己最大的潜能,成功实现了自我价值。
