从不礼貌理论的角度分析《哑巴侍者》中的不礼貌

本文拟采用Jonathan Culpeper的不礼貌理论及相关的面子问题和面子威胁论分析哈罗德·品特的戏剧《哑巴侍者》中的不礼貌现象。首先分析了该剧中人物之间相互不礼貌的潜在原因。研究认为面子是社会交往过程中每个成员意欲为自己争取的自尊或公共自我形象。每个社会成员天生就有两种面子需求：积极面子和消极面子。积极面子是指希望被对方喜欢、得到认同、受到尊敬。消极面子是指不愿被对方反驳、不希望对方强加自己,自己的行为不受干涉、阻碍等。在交往过程中,人们通常避免不礼貌行为以维护对方的面子,使交流顺利进行。然而,在哈罗德·品特的独幕剧《哑巴侍者》中,剧中人物本和格斯在交流的过程中不断地表现出不礼貌行为,尤其是本对格斯的不礼貌极为明显。不礼貌不仅损害了双方的面子,而且也加深了两人之间的矛盾。该剧中的不礼貌行为主要表现为以下三个方面：本和格斯在违反对话原则下的权力争夺；本使用不礼貌策略维护权力；本使用非语言不礼貌对格斯的权力压制。本文认为,本的不礼貌极大地影响了他和格斯之间的关系,使他们之间的冲突不断升级；本的不礼貌是为了权力,本极力想通过损害格斯的面子来维护自己的权力。通过对《哑巴侍者》的分析可以发...
