《印度之行》中虚构的“他者”

　　作为英语文学的经典之作,《印度之行》在批评界也获得了巨大的成功。小说不仅描写了英国殖民统治时期的印度和印度人,而且还有深刻的文化内涵和寓意。批评家从政治、种族、宗教及文化等视角解读《印度之行》。本文以后殖民理论为基础,研究《印度之行》中的“他者”,旨在揭露小说中的不同“他者”,以及探讨小说虚构“他者”的原因。本论文主要由引言、正文和结论组成,正文分为三章。引言部分概述了爱德华·摩根·福斯特的生平、创作生涯,简要介绍了《印度之行》的故事梗概及研究现状。第一章探讨了《印度之行》中对地理的描写。这些描写包括作为故事主要发生地的城市的混乱布局,马拉巴山和山洞,以及印度的气候等。第二章通过对比小说对于英国人和印度人的描写,揭示作为“他者的”印度人。这些描写包括英国-印度人的优越感,阿德拉和菲尔丁的双重意识,高德波尔教授,阿齐兹以及小说其他印度人的描写。第三章考察福斯特笔下落后的印度形象,分析了《印度之行》中虚构的“他者”的原因。论文在结论部分总结了本论文和关注的小说,并提出《印度之行》中虚构的“他者”主要是为大英帝国的利益服务。
