[Abstract]:Electronic badge is a new type of learning resources and learning model which appears in recent two years along with the open resources movement, large-scale online open courses and so on. It has high flexibility and can meet the needs of all kinds of learning methods. It is helpful to make up for the deficiency of traditional evaluation method. But in the early days of the use of electronic badges, organizations were developing and applying their own badge systems, resulting in a wide variety of badges, uncertainty in shape and inconsistent adoption of standards. It reduces the reliability and availability of electronic badges, and becomes difficult to popularize and apply. To address these problems, the Mozilla Foundation, an open source software organization in the United States, launched the Open Badge project to provide a standardized electronic badge creation, publishing and certification technology architecture (OBI). OBI architecture divided into badge winners, publishers, and publishers. Three types of role presenter, including metadata specification, APIs, authentication framework and badge backpack module. By using OBI, any learner can collect badges from multiple sources and store and manage them uniformly. Badges can also be made and displayed by standardized API, metadata specification and unified identity authentication mechanism. Although OBI's open standard has gained a large market share in electronic badges, it still needs to be improved in terms of credibility, reliability and verifiability. The future OBI will be optimized in badge display, permissions, interfaces and so on to make it closer to practical applications.
