【摘要】： 设计作为一种社会——文化质的活动，在市场调节、社会导向的双重制约之下，现代设计不断从中国传统艺术中提炼出新的艺术表现形式，传统艺术对现代设计有一定的借鉴作用是毋庸置疑的。艺术和设计是相通的，少数民族艺术中蕴含着许多源于自然本质的纯朴的东西，不但对我们今天的设计有着重要的启迪意义，同时，也与我们所提倡的“绿色设计”不谋而合，能够在生态的、环保的工业设计中给我们提供更多的新思路和素材。如少数民族有代表自己的一套符号，这也是值得借鉴的。符号负载信息，传递信息。它是事物特性的表征，是认识事物的一种简化手段，也是思维的主体。人们在符号系统中达成相互理解，相互沟通，在此意义上，，符号无疑是信息的工具。图形建构符号，符号建构信息，透过其传达与接受的互动而生成意义。在符号和事物之间存在着表征与被表征、理解与被理解的关系，视觉符号被看作某种事物的记号。符号与已知的事物相关，与它指涉对象的特性相关。图形解读是发现图形意义的过程，并且发生在受众和图形的互动之际。当受众以其文化经验中去理解图形中的符号时，它也包含了一些对此图形的个性的理解，不同文化背景和经验背景对于同一图形可能会产生不同的意义解读。任何语意都只在一定范围内被理解，只有符合特定背景的符号才能被接受。但是并不是所有的旧元素都可以拿来组合，在选择这个旧元素时必须考虑它有没有普遍性，比如，火药，书法，唐诗，寓言，碑林都有普遍性，这些不仅具有本民族的普遍性，同是也具有国际的普遍性。这里就说到新组合的问题。这种组合不是并列关系，而是兼容关系，二个元素应该是你中有我，我中有你，如：太极拳和奥运五环，如果把太极拳换成碑林，书法，就产生不了兼容关系，不兼容就谈不上新的组合，以此类推。现代设计蕴含的空间巨大，从广告设计、产品设计、服装设计到室内设计、建筑设计，等等，处处都能看到运用传统的表现形式来传达信息的成功实例。当今世界500强企业的标志个个简洁含蓄，视觉冲击力强，很少繁杂或令人费解。“雀巢咖啡”广告语“美味的开始”，朗朗上口又回味无穷，“可口可乐”广告语“永远的可口可乐”，简单而深刻，用含蓄的语言传达深广的含义。现代广告招贴广泛运用空间的虚实对比，如一幅以保护水资源为主题的公益招贴，以黑白两色分割整个画面，丰满的鱼头衍变为只剩骨头的鱼身，大量的黑白空间留给人们去思索、回味。“苹果电脑”的外型设计在满足功能的基础上，越来越趋于简单、超薄，同时赋予更多的哲学含义，设计成为一种文化，是有生命的，发展着的。美国著名建筑大师赖特设计的“流水别墅”，整座建筑坐落于瀑布之上，以普通的毛石和长条石为材料，色彩对比强烈，造型简洁大方，传达“回归自然”的人居哲学观。武汉理工大学硕士学位论文本文从广西北部的几个少数民族(融水苗族自治县元宝山的苗族、罗城松佬族自治县的松佬族以及周围的其他少数民族)艺术为出发点，以人与自然的和谐共处为指导思想探讨了少数民族的以实用为主的艺术中的创生性，并提出了少数民族艺术中的几个特点，以及创生性在绿色设计中的具体体现和做法，和少数民族艺术在设计思想、方法、资源以及目的这几个方面对现代设计的启示。艺术的创生性实际上是一种进行艺术创作的方法和目的，它以学习自然生生不息的生态规律为宗旨，通过创作过程中不同要素为了达到共生的状态而进行的不断相互协调、相互排斥的活动中，激发形成新的要素，以实现创作的目的，由于这种过程是不断往复循环的，因而形成螺旋上升的发展趋势。其实践表现为绿色产品开发，是从绿色产品的设计开始的，绿色设计是以节约资源和保护环境为宗派宗旨的设计理念和方法，它强调保护自然生态，充分利用资源。以人为本，善待环境，绿色设计不应仅是一个倡议和提议，它应成为现实文明和未来发展的方向。设计不应再把文化当作提高身价的装饰，只满足于从传统中套用文化符号，而是能够站在更高的地方，理解前人的文化创造，看到前人文化行为中的历史必然性，真正从文化现象中体会到当时的创造者对世界、对自己的理解。我们要从文化中汲取的正是前人具体创作背后的这种对世界、对自己的理解。
