英汉概念隐喻的对比研究

【摘要】： 隐喻研究的历史源远流长。在西方,对隐喻比较系统的研究可以追溯到亚里士多德。然而,隐喻研究传统上仅限于修辞领域和语言领域。其主要理论包括比较理论、替代理论和互动理论。1980年美国著名认知语言学家莱考夫与约翰逊合著的《我们赖以生存的隐喻》的出版标志着隐喻的研究实现了从修辞格和语义研究到认知研究的转向,是隐喻研究的一个重大突破。近二十年来,隐喻研究在认知科学领域的发展得到了越来越广泛的认同。认知理论认为隐喻的本质就是通过一种事物来理解和经历另一种事物,隐喻不仅仅是一种语言现象,更是一种认知现象,是我们认知和理解世界的工具。人类赖以生存的许多基本概念系统以及人类思维方式乃至行为方式本质上都是隐喻性的。 概念隐喻是莱考夫隐喻理论中的一个重要概念。概念隐喻的形成是以人类身体经验为基础的。本文以莱考夫和约翰逊的隐喻理论为基础,从认知角度,对英汉语中的四种主要的概念隐喻即人体隐喻、时间隐喻、情感隐喻以及颜色隐喻进行对比分析,着重探讨两种语言在概念隐喻表达上的异同,并从认知和文化两个角度分析其形成原因。研究表明英汉两种语言中有一些共同的概念隐喻,这是因为英汉两种语言中的概念隐喻都源于身体经验。同时,英汉概念隐喻也存在很大的差异,这主要是由于文化的相对性造成的。本文从地理位置、传统习惯、哲学理论和宗教信仰上的不同对这些差异作出了阐释。 本文的对比研究进一步证实了概念隐喻存在着认知普遍性以及文化相对性。此项研究在一定程度上弥补了目前对于英汉概念隐喻跨文化对比研究的不足。另外,此研究将会促进概念隐喻的跨文化理解,并有助于外语学习、外语教学、翻译以及跨文化交际。
