【摘要】：《奇境》是欧茨写作生涯的分水岭。从《奇境》开始,权力与身份成为乔伊斯·卡罗尔·欧茨的聚焦点之一。它开启了欧茨对人类心理世界的探索。主人公杰西的人生是二十世纪三十年代到七十年代美国社会混乱的反映。欧茨认为,这一时期的美国现实就是一个“奇境”。杰西从梦魇般的童年走出来,从一个无家的孤儿成为一位卓越的脑科医生。他经历了失去、寻找和得到身份的整个过程,最终拥有自己的开业诊所,变身显赫的沃格尔医生。然而,事实证明杰西在深受诸位父亲的控制和权力影响下建构起来的这一身份已经远不是他自身。杰西成为沃格尔医生的同时已失掉了自我,他的内在核心。沃格尔医生实际上已经成为父权的代理。他就像弗兰肯斯坦式的怪物一样,是杰西执迷于认同或者内化父亲人格的产品。而这导致了杰西自我的异化,使他成为女儿最终所说的虚空、无情而又专制的“魔鬼”。这就是他人格上的异化。论文旨在详细分析主人公自我建构及其导致他最终本质异化的整个过程。依据拉康的镜像阶段理论,最终得出结论:父权制社会中男性的自我建构实质上是一系列的父式认同。认同他者的过程也是自我走向异化的道路,因为杰西最终成为一个彻头彻尾的他者。主人公主体性走向异化和瓦解。论文以拉康心理分析角度分析《奇境》,以期引起人们对人的本质及人作为一种独立理性的存在的深思。
