[Abstract]:Frances Scott Fitzgerald was a famous American novelist in early 20th century, known as the spokesman of the jazz era. The novel the Great Gatsby is its masterpiece. On the face of it, the novel "the Great Gatsby" is its masterpiece. The novel seems to tell a tragic story of an adult love, in fact, it is a true record of American society during 20s: illegal brewery; The faces of movie stars; Professional women's view of life and love; People's different attitudes to the current moral standards and social and cultural customs. Because of the profound ideological significance and forward-looking warning role of the novel. It further established his outstanding position in the history of literature in 20th century. Nevertheless, the novel created the negative image of many new women in the American jazz era. Readers can clearly feel that Fitzgerald's portrayal of women is negative and dependent on men, especially Daisy. With the development of feminist literary criticism theory. It is necessary to reinterpret the works from a new angle. This paper reinterprets the Great Gatsby from the perspective of feminism. The paper includes introduction, three chapters of the text and the conclusion. The introduction introduces the author and his works as well as his status and contribution in the history of American literature. In addition, it also introduces the development and related theories of feminist literary criticism. Degree. That is, on the one hand, he believes that the new women represent freedom, resistance and other new values. On the other hand, he worries that what they represent is not only freedom and revolt, but also spiritual depravity. To some extent, the author's negative portrayal of female characters also reflects his female values. And the attitudes of men towards women in American society at that time. Chapter two uses feminist literary criticism to analyze the Great Gatsby. Firstly, it reveals the narrator Nick's attitude towards women. Color, especially in Daisy's interpretation of the existence of patriarchal consciousness. Based on the interpretation of Nick's patriarchal discourse, Daisy is analyzed and interpreted from the perspective of feminism, and a conclusion can be drawn. In the patriarchal society, women like Daisy were the victims of the society at that time. Daisy was the victim of Gatsby's American dream. At the same time, Daisy also showed a budding female consciousness. Therefore, the portrayal of female characters in novels is unfair.
