框架语义学指导下高中英语词汇文化涵义教学的实验研究

【摘要】:语言是文化的载体,许多词汇承载着文化信息,这些词汇常常成为学生理解和使用英语的障碍。《普通高中英语课程标准(实验稿)》(2003)明确强调跨文化教育在英语教学中的重要地位,要求教师注重培养学生的跨文化意识。Fillmore认为:框架为词汇的理解提供前提,在词汇学习中,框架作为一种认知结构,提供相关的框架元素、知识结构和文化背景,基于框架语义学的词汇教学能帮助学生更好理解词汇意义及其文化。因此,本文探索应用框架语义学指导英语词汇教学的思路和方法。基于框架理论的特点和类别,作者把框架语义学应用于高中英语词汇文化涵义教学并进行实验,旨在找出框架语义学指导下的英语词汇教学能否使学生更准确地理解目标词汇和已学过词汇的文化涵义,以及框架语义学指导下的英语词汇教学对学生的词汇学习策略可能产生积极的影响。广东省一所中学的86名高一学生参与了历时一学期的实验。他们来自于两个平行班,英语词汇文化涵义学习情况相差不大,其中43名的学生作为实验班,在框架语义学指导下学习英语词汇及其文化涵义。另外43名学生在控制班,接受传统的英语词汇教学。在本研究的实验班中,框架语义学指导下的英语词汇教学模型可分为三个步骤,包括激活背景、建立框架、巩固应用。控制班则由同一老师用传统的教学方法指导学生进行词汇学习。为了验证实验的效果,本研究采用了问卷、前测和后测以及访谈三种方法收集数据。作者运用定量和和定性相结合的方法去分析收集的数据,验证研究假设。独立样本T检验和配对样本T检验显示实验班的学生测试分数比控制班的学生的测试分数高得多,而且,Sig值等于0.000,(P0.05),结果表明学生的前测和后测结果存在显著性差异,也就是说,框架语义学指导下的英语词汇教学能使学生更准确地理解英语词汇的文化涵义。同时,在实验前后收集的问卷调查学生的词汇学习策略,结果显示实验前学生倾向于根据中文意思来学习词汇,但实验后,学生利用语境和框架进行词汇学习的意识大大提高了。访谈的结果也显示大部分学生认为框架知识有助于英语词汇文化意义的掌握。研究结果初步表明框架语义学指导下的英语词汇教学对学生的英语词汇学习有积极的影响,这种教学方法不但能使学生更好理解英语词汇的意义,还能有效地提高学生的词汇学习策略。本研究得出如下启示:教师应帮助学生激活词汇的文化框架,从而为目标词意义的理解做好准备;框架描述和呈现应当简单明了,符合逻辑结构;帮助学生对词汇涵义进行总结归类。
[Abstract]:Language is the carrier of culture. Many words carry cultural information.These words often become an obstacle for students to understand and use English.According to Fillmore, the framework provides the premise for the understanding of vocabulary. In vocabulary learning, the framework, as a cognitive structure, provides the relevant frame elements, knowledge structure and cultural background.Lexical teaching based on frame semantics can help students better understand lexical meaning and culture.Therefore, this paper explores the ideas and methods of applying frame semantics to guide English vocabulary teaching.Based on the characteristics and categories of frame theory, the author applies frame semantics to the teaching of English lexical and cultural meaning in senior high school and carries out experiments.The purpose of this study is to find out whether the teaching of English vocabulary under the guidance of frame semantics can help students to understand more accurately the cultural meaning of the target vocabulary and the vocabulary they have learned.Furthermore, English vocabulary teaching under the guidance of frame semantics may have a positive impact on students' vocabulary learning strategies.Eighty-six high school students from a high school in Guangdong Province participated in the one-term experiment.They come from two parallel classes and there is no significant difference in the learning of English vocabulary and cultural meaning. Among them, 43 students, as experimental classes, learn English vocabulary and its cultural meaning under the guidance of frame semantics.Another 43 students received traditional English vocabulary teaching in the control class.In the experimental class, the model of English vocabulary teaching under the guidance of frame semantics can be divided into three steps: activating the background, establishing the framework and consolidating the application.The control class is taught by the same teacher with traditional teaching methods.In order to verify the effect of the experiment, the data were collected by questionnaire, pre-test and post-test and interview.The author uses both quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze the collected data and verify the research hypothesis.Independent sample T test and matched sample T test showed that the test scores of the students in the experimental class were much higher than those of the students in the control class, and the Sig value was equal to 0.000 / 0. 05%. The results showed that there were significant differences between the pre-test and post-test results of the students, that is,Under the guidance of frame semantics, English vocabulary teaching can help students to understand the cultural meaning of English vocabulary more accurately.At the same time, a questionnaire survey on vocabulary learning strategies was conducted before and after the experiment. The results showed that the students tended to learn vocabulary according to the Chinese meaning before and after the experiment, but after the experiment,Students' awareness of vocabulary learning by using context and framework has been greatly improved.The results of interviews also show that most students believe that frame knowledge is helpful to grasp the cultural meaning of English vocabulary.The results show that English vocabulary teaching under the guidance of frame semantics has a positive impact on students' English vocabulary learning, and this teaching method can not only help students understand the meaning of English vocabulary better.It can also effectively improve students' vocabulary learning strategies.The findings of this study are as follows: teachers should help students to activate the cultural framework of the vocabulary so as to prepare for the understanding of the meaning of the target words, and the description and presentation of the framework should be simple and clear, in line with the logical structure;Help students to summarize and classify the meaning of vocabulary.
