新大学扩展运动：英国高等教育现代化的催化剂

本文旨在研究维多利亚时期新大学扩展运动对英国高等教育现代化的贡献。维多利亚时期的英国社会经历多方面的变革。在教育领域的一项变革吸引了众多学者的关注,即新大学扩运动。学者们从不同的角度对该运动进行了研究分析。然而学者们在新大学对高等教育现代化的贡献上看法不一。有些学者认为该运动对英国高等教育的现代化有着重要的促进作用;然而,有些学者认为新大学并没有促进英国高等教育的现代化反而加强了英国教育的保守传统,因为新大学在发展过程中逐渐偏离的最初的理念,被牛津剑桥的传统理念所同化。通过相关的文献研究,本文作者认为,19世纪建立的新大学对英国高等现代化的进程有着重要的促进作用,主要表现在以下三个方面:首先,新大学扩展运动加速了英国高等教育大众化的过程。19世纪之前的几个世纪里,英国高等教育为牛桥所垄断。由于多种原因只有贵族,上层阶级,以及具有英国国教信仰的男性公民才能进入这两所学校学习。这种不公平的规条将其它社会背景的公民拒之门外。随着资本主义,宗教运动发展,以及妇女意识的提高,传统大学已经无法满足社会各阶层及群体教育机会扩大的要求。新大学在这种情况下应运而生。这些新大学摒弃了传统大学对阶层,宗教,...
