《海洋的过去与未来:指向新的水利社会》英汉翻译实践报告

如今计算机技术日新月异,翻译技术也随之得到发展。在翻译行业,越来越多的人选择使用机器翻译。当前,人们使用机器翻译主要采用人助机译和机助人译两种方法。其中,人助机译即为机器翻译起主要作用,译者通过译后编辑提高译文质量。相比于传统的人工翻译,这种方法高效省时。本文选自尼尔·皮特(Peter Neill)的著作The Once and Future Ocean:Notes toward A New Hydraulic Society(《海洋的过去与未来:指向新的水利社会》,第六章)。该章主要讲述了世界多地出现水资源短缺问题,人们试图寻求解决措施。选取章节属于科技类文本,不仅含有较多专业术语,还包括大量复合句。由于机器翻译无法准确翻译全文,笔者在翻译时需要处理的主要难点是翻译专业术语,多义词及复合句,解决语篇衔接问题。本文选用SDL Trados Studio2019计算机辅助翻译工具,将收集整理好的术语表导入其中,使用Tmxmall机器翻译插件调用百度翻译进行预翻译,在机器翻译的基础上进行译后编辑提高翻译质量。在译后编辑的过程中,对于缩略语、多义词和词组误译,笔者查阅《英汉牛津字典》和必应,结合语境选取正确词义修改翻译;对于复合句,笔者先划分长句理清逻辑关系,之后重组句子进行翻译,这样可以更加清楚明白的表达原文意思,避免严重的翻译腔;在语篇衔接问题上,为突出句子关系笔者增加了关联词。对于重复冗长以及表达不清的内容,笔者简化译文使其精炼易懂。通过本次实践,笔者作出如下总结。首先,虽然机器翻译技术不断进步,但仍存在许多问题。机器翻译不能准确翻译缩略语、多义词和词组,不能灵活转换词性;长难句理解不准,逻辑不清;篇章内容冗长,表达不明白,缺少连词。结合实例中的问题,总结了译后编辑的方法以提高翻译效率。其次,笔者也认识到了自身的一些不足之处,例如由于自身翻译水平不够,对于复合句会受到机器翻译的影响,导致编辑后的译文仍存在翻译腔。对此,笔者会继续加强翻译基本功的训练,阅读外刊掌握地道表达,以提高自己的翻译水平。
