认同、共情与象征行动:诺曼·梅勒《夜幕下的大军》中的抗议策略研究

美国当代作家诺曼·梅勒(1923-2007)以其作品中对战后美国社会及政治问题的关注和深刻思考而获得广泛好评。论文通过抗议小说的定义将梅勒的代表作《夜幕下的大军》(1968)界定为典型的抗议小说,借助肯尼斯·伯克的修辞理论及约翰·斯托弗教授在《美国抗议文学》一书前言中首次提出的抗议文学思想揭示出作品蕴含的“认同”、“共情”及“象征行动”这三种抗议策略,进而说明作家通过这三种策略在文本中的贯彻执行而将抗议的对象直指美国社会根深蒂固的的极权主义思想,而作家亦正是通过抗议策略的有效实施得以将自己的抗议思想潜移默化地传递给读者和受众,从而实现抗议的有效性。第一章借鉴肯尼斯·伯克修辞理论中的“认同”策略,探讨作品如何使读者认同梅勒呈现的的多重形象。其中梅勒在文中突出呈现他自己“本能的嬉皮士”和“写作风格独特的存在主义者”这一多重形象的目的一方面在于纠正和挽回自己在大众媒体中的负面形象,另一方面在于表达他对“非此即彼”和“泯灭个性”的极权主义思想的反抗;第二章围绕约翰·斯托弗提出的“共情”策略,讨论梅勒在作品中采用的“叙事共情”中的“第三人称叙事双重叙述视角”(梅勒全知视角和“梅勒”限定视角)、“...
