美国小说《日出诱惑》中人物外貌描写英中翻译实践报告

本实践报告基于作者对美国小说《日出诱惑》的英中翻译实践,分析了在翻译人物外貌描写的句子时所遇到的主要困难,最后阐明了针对这些困难所釆取的翻译技巧。人物外貌描写即是对人物的貌特,包括容貌、身材、服饰、神情、体型、姿态、习惯性特点等进行描写,以揭示人物的思想性格,表达作者的爱憎,加深读者对人物的印象。人物外貌描写能于细处生动地展露人物性格,预测人物前途命运,因而在小说翻译过程中,人物外貌描写句子翻译的重要性不言而喻。《日出诱惑》在对人物进行外貌描写时为表达复杂的思想,使用了大量的长句,这些长句有的由多个无动词小句组成,有的含有多个限定性小句,有的包含多个非限定性小句,使句子结构变得非常复杂。因此,造成了作者的翻译困难:即,英文小说中人物外貌描写三大句式的翻译:无动词分句、限定性从属分句、非限定性分句的翻译;作者在奈达的功能对等理论的指导下,对人物外貌描写句子在句法层面的翻译提出了可行的翻译技巧:汉语四字结构;增译;释义;转换;合译;顺译及分译,以期提高外貌描写句子的质量翻译,为译入语读者提供最贴切自然的译文,满足读者期待。
