哈佛燕京学社与华中大学人文学科历史关系述略

【摘要】：哈佛燕京学社系近代第一个专门推动中美大学之间开展学术合作的国际性学术机构,其宗旨是促进中美两国高校的中国学研究。除了其主要资助的六所教会大学外,哈佛燕京学社从1937年起始资助华中大学开展人文社会科学方面的研究,受其资助的教授们所取得研究成果得到哈佛燕京学社的高度认可。在西迁大理喜洲期间及战后重返武昌时期,虽因抗战影响而颠沛流离,但华中大学文史哲学科实力不降反升,影响不可谓不大,而受其资助的学者个人学术生涯则从中受益匪浅,大多成长为一代学术巨擘。本文拟对这一段鲜为人知的中美学术合作史作一初步钩沉,在铭记历史的同时,以期进一步推动当代中美人文社会科学的交流与互鉴。
[Abstract]:Harvard Yanjing College is the first international academic institution in modern times to promote academic cooperation between Chinese and American universities. Its purpose is to promote Chinese studies in Chinese and American universities. In addition to the six major church universities, the Harvard Yanjing Society has been funding the research of humanities and social sciences at Huazhong University since 1937. The research results obtained by the professors funded by it have been highly recognized by the Harvard Yenching Society. During the period of moving west to Dali Xizhou and returning to Wuchang after the war, although displaced by the influence of the War of Resistance against Japan, the strength of literature, history and philosophy at Huazhong University did not decline but instead rose. The individual academic career of the scholars who are funded by it has benefited greatly, and most of them have grown into a generation of academic giants. This paper intends to make a preliminary review of this little-known history of Sino-American academic cooperation, while bearing in mind the history, with a view to further promoting the exchange and mutual learning between the humanities and social sciences of contemporary China and the United States.
