理工大学英语专业学生议论文写作中转折连接词运用的语料库研究

【摘要】:对于中国大学生来说,英语议论文是经常考查也是他们应当掌握的文体,而英语中的连接词作为语篇衔接的一种手段,对增强议论文的连贯性、逻辑性和说服力起着重要的作用。其中的转折连接词更是在对观点、情况等进行对比时,在表示让步、强调等关系时都不可或缺。所以,大学生,尤其是学习英语专业的学生,都应当具备正确恰当地使用转折连接词的能力。学者们对转折连接词的使用也做了不少研究(陈建林,2010;初良龙赵成发,2011;杨自强,2013等),他们发现,中国英语学习者在转折连接词的掌握上仍存在一些问题。但是,以往的研究涵盖对象范围较广,几乎没有针对英语专业学生转折连接词的使用状况的。因此,为了一定程度上弥补研究空白,更透彻地了解这一群体转折连接词的使用情况,本研究采用语料库的研究方法,对中国英语专业学生和英语本族语者在议论文中转折连接词的使用情况进行对比分析,找出英语专业学生转折连接词的使用特点,尤其是存在的问题,并通过问卷调查和访谈探究相关原因,从而为他们提出有关转折连接词掌握和议论文写作教学的有利建议。本研究共使用两个语料库:观察语料库是自建的英语专业议论文语料库,由300篇太原理工大学英语专业大二学生所写的英语议论文构成;参照语料库是议论文范文语料库,由Sylviane Granger教授建立的LOCNES S英语本族语者议论文语料库中323篇议论文构成。在对文本进行整理、录入、编码、标注等过程后,作者又借助AntConc3.2.4和SPSS16.0进行了科学的分析。结果表明:1.整体而言,英语专业学生和本族语者在转折连接词的使用上不存在显著差异;2.从特定的转折连接词来看,英语专业学生使用频率最高的是but,中等的是while,较低的是though,yet和whereas;3.英语专业学生过度使用一些转折连接词,像but,however等,很少使用某些转折连接词,比如conversely,nevertheless,alternatively等;4.除个别位置相对固定的词外,英语专业学生倾向于把转折连接词放在句首,而本族语者在使用位置的变换上更加灵活。5.英语专业学生知识储备、学习态度等多方面因素致使他们在转折连接词的使用上输出效果不好,如转折连接词误用现象。基于以上研究结果,作者提出,在英语议论文的写作教学中,教师应多强调其重要性,多讲授语篇知识,对转折连接词或其他种类的连接词都进行系统细致的讲解,引导学生灵活使用丰富多样的连接词。
[Abstract]:For Chinese college students, English argumentative writing is a kind of style that they should always check and master. As a means of discourse cohesion, English connectives can enhance the coherence of argumentation.Logic and persuasion play an important role.The transitive connectives are indispensable when comparing opinions and situations, indicating concessions and emphasizing relationships.Therefore, college students, especially those majoring in English, should have the ability to use transition connectives correctly and properly.Scholars have also done a lot of research on the use of transitive connectives (Chen Jianlin 2010; Chou Liang long Zhao Chengfa 2011; Yang Ziqiang 2013 et al.). They found that Chinese English learners still have some problems in the mastery of turning connectives.However, the previous studies cover a wide range of subjects, almost no English majors for the use of transition connectives.Therefore, in order to make up the gaps in the research to a certain extent and understand the use of the group transition connectives more thoroughly, the present study adopts a corpus approach.This paper makes a comparative analysis of the use of transition connectives between Chinese English majors and native English speakers in order to find out the characteristics of the use of transition connectives, especially the existing problems.And through the questionnaire and interview to explore the relevant reasons, so as to put forward for them to grasp the transition conjunction and argumentative writing teaching beneficial suggestions.This study uses two corpuscles: the observation corpus is a self-built English argumentative corpus composed of 300 argumentative papers written by the sophomore English majors of Taiyuan University of Technology, and the reference corpus is the argumentation corpus.There are 323 argumentative papers in the corpus of LOCNES S native speakers' argumentative papers established by Professor Sylviane Granger.After finishing, inputting, coding and tagging the text, the author makes a scientific analysis with AntConc3.2.4 and SPSS16.0.The result shows that 1: 1.On the whole, there is no significant difference between English majors and native speakers in the use of transitive connectives.From a specific turn of view, English majors use the highest frequency of but, the medium is whil, and the lower is the thoughyet and whereas3.English majors overuse some transitional connectives, such as butbut however, and rarely use some of them, such as converging and never having alternative connectives.In addition to the relatively fixed position of words, English majors tend to put the transition conjunction at the beginning of the sentence, while the native speaker is more flexible in the use of the position. 5.Many factors, such as knowledge reserve and learning attitude of English majors, lead to poor output effect in the use of transitive connectives, such as misuse of transitive connectives.Based on the above findings, the author suggests that in the teaching of argumentative writing, teachers should emphasize its importance, give more discourse knowledge, and give systematic and detailed explanations of transitive connectives or other kinds of connectives.Guide students to use a variety of connectives flexibly.
