英语语篇的人际衔接和谐研究

【摘要】:衔接和谐是韩礼德与哈桑提出的借以衡量语篇连贯程度的理论。衔接和谐理论以语篇中若干词汇项之间的语义关系为基础充当衡量英语语篇连贯性程度的一种衔接手段。该理论试图从经验意义角度为目标语篇的定向分析提供一种科学的手段。为获得衡量语篇连贯性的客观分析结果,该理论采取分析语篇中各相关词汇项所占的比率的定向分析方法,提出了衔接纽带、衔接链条以及衔接链互动等语义概念。这些语义概念的提出是为了给语篇中衔接和谐现象和语篇连贯性的衡量提供三种可供参考的参数。韩礼德与哈桑(1985)以三种参数来衡量语篇的连贯性:边缘词项与相关词项的比率越低,语篇会越连贯;中心词项与非中心词项的比率越高,语篇会越连贯;互动中断越少,语篇会越连贯。经验意义上的衔接和谐理论可概括为:语篇的连贯程度是衔接和谐程度的函数。它是一种衡量语篇连贯性的新方法新思路,为语篇的连贯性分析做出了贡献。然而,仅靠经验意义上的衔接和谐并不能保证语篇的连贯。该理论缺乏对人际意义方面的考量。语境、语气、情态、语调以及评价等人际意义方面的概念对语篇连贯具有重要贡献。语境是语篇发生的场所,它是人际意义衔接和谐与语篇连贯性的文化和情景背景;语气种类和由语气所实现的言语功能通过表明通常情况下特定的语气种类表达特定的言语功能,对于这一语言现象的认识有助于我们对语篇中衔接和谐现象的认识,从而发展衔接和谐理论;语调丰富了言语功能与语气的实现;情态作为一种人际因素,它通过说话者或作者较委婉表达判断或意见等以缓和交际者之间的交流气氛,从而促进对语篇的连贯性的衡量;评价关注语篇中说话者或作者对人及物的态度的有意或无意的表达,这可以促进我们对语篇中衔接和谐现象的认识。语境、语气、情态、语调以及评价作为几种主要的表达语言人际意义的因素,突出了语篇中衔接和谐现象,促进了语篇连贯性的衡量,丰富了衔接和谐理论。人际衔接和谐能弥补目前只着重于经验意义方面的衔接和谐理论对于语篇语境、语气系统、情态系统、语调系统、评价系统等方面的欠缺。尽管人际意义衔接和谐研究并不能保证语篇的连贯,但是它很大程度上促进了语篇在语言交际者内心的连贯性的实现。本文在简要讨论韩礼德与哈桑的链接和谐理论的基础上,说明经验衔接和谐在分析多重语篇连贯性上的欠缺,从语境、语气、情态、语调以及评价等方面补充说明了衔接和谐理论在人际意义方面的讨论对语篇连贯性研究的重要贡献。
[Abstract]:Cohesion and harmony is a theory put forward by Halliday and Hasan to measure the coherence of discourse. Cohesion Harmony Theory serves as a cohesive device to measure the degree of coherence in English discourse based on the semantic relationship between several lexical items in a text. The theory attempts to provide a scientific means for the directional analysis of the target language from the perspective of empirical significance. In order to obtain the objective analysis results of discourse coherence, the theory adopts a directional analysis method to analyze the proportion of relevant lexical items in a text, and puts forward the semantic concepts of cohesion link, cohesion chain and cohesion chain interaction. These semantic concepts are proposed to provide three parameters for reference in the measurement of cohesion harmony and discourse coherence. Halliday and Hasan (1985) used three parameters to measure the coherence of the text: the lower the ratio of marginal words to related words, the more coherent the text; the higher the ratio of the central word item to the non-central word item, the more coherent the text, and the less the interruption of interaction. The more coherent a text is, the more coherent it is. The theory of cohesion harmony in the empirical sense can be summarized as follows: the coherence degree of a text is a function of the cohesion harmony degree. It is a new way to measure discourse coherence and contributes to discourse coherence analysis. However, cohesion and harmony in the sense of experience alone can not guarantee the coherence of a text. The theory lacks consideration of interpersonal meaning. The concepts of context, mood, modality, intonation and evaluation play an important role in discourse coherence. Context is the place where discourse takes place. It is the cultural and situational background of interpersonal cohesion harmony and discourse coherence. The kind of mood and the speech function realized by the mood can express the specific speech function by showing the specific mood type in general. The understanding of this linguistic phenomenon is helpful to the understanding of cohesion and harmony in the discourse. Thus, the theory of cohesion and harmony is developed; intonation enriches the realization of speech function and mood; modality, as a interpersonal factor, alleviates the atmosphere of communication among communicators through euphemism of judgment or opinion expressed by the speaker or author, etc. In order to promote the measurement of the coherence of the text and to pay attention to the intentional or unintentional expression of the speaker's or the author's attitude towards human and substance in the discourse, it can promote our understanding of cohesion and harmony in the discourse. Context, mood, modality, intonation and evaluation are the main factors of expressing the interpersonal meaning of language, which highlight cohesion harmony in discourse, promote the measurement of discourse coherence, and enrich cohesion theory. Interpersonal cohesion harmony can make up for the lack of cohesion harmony theory which only focuses on empirical meaning in discourse context, mood system, modal system, intonation system, evaluation system and so on. Although the study of cohesion in interpersonal meaning can not guarantee the coherence of discourse, it promotes the realization of coherence in the heart of the language communicator to a great extent. Based on a brief discussion of Halliday's theory of link harmony with Hasan, this paper illustrates the deficiency of empirical cohesion in analyzing the coherence of multiple discourse, from context, mood and modality. Such aspects as intonation and evaluation illustrate the important contribution of cohesive harmony theory in interpersonal meaning to the study of discourse coherence.
