《西游记》两个英译本中话语标记语的对比研究

【摘要】：作为一种常见的语言现象,话语标记是作者或说话者用来组织连贯的语篇,明确表达他们的观点,从而引导读者更好地理解语篇。不同类型的话语标记语在特定语境中实现不同的功能。本文旨在对比中国经典小说《西游记》中余国藩和詹纳尔的英译本中第十四章至三十九章的话语标记语。本文的研究中心是两个译本中话语标记语的异同点。本文所采用的研究方法是定量和定性分析,以下所得结论都是基于以上两种分析方法。第一,就两个译本中话语标记语的相同点而言,两名译者都使用了话语连接词and和but,时间标记语now和then,以及结果标记语so以获得连贯和受读者喜爱的译文。两个译本的最大相同之处在于话语连接词:and和but。And用于指示句子间的条件,结果,事件继续及对比关系。But具有多个功能,即话题转换标记,对比标记,修正标记和否定预期标记。第二,两个译本的不同之处可以划分为两类。第一类是在相同的语境条件下,两位译者使用不同话语标记语,即对比标记语although/though和话语连接词but,时间标记语then和话语连接词and,结果标记语so和话语连接词and。第二类,在相同的语境中,有时余国藩使用话语标记语,有时詹纳尔使用话语标记语。余国藩在其译文中增加了不同类别的话语标记语,如信息标记语you see,推断标记语of course,对比标记语in fact,以期组织连贯译文和明确表达小说人物情感和态度。詹纳尔的译文主要增加了推断标记语so,话语连接词and和but以及时间标记语then。本文具有以下三方面的意义。首先,本文阐明了一名西方学者与一位海外汉学家译本的不同之处,为中国典籍翻译做出了一定的贡献。其次,本文丰富了翻译研究。翻译者应该关注话语标记语,以使译文更准确和真实。最后,本文对英语教学和写作具有一定的启示意义,学生应好好利用话语标记语以获得连贯的文章。
[Abstract]:As a common linguistic phenomenon, discourse markers are used by the author or the speaker to organize coherent discourse and express their views clearly, so as to guide the reader to better understand the text. Different types of discourse markers perform different functions in specific contexts. The purpose of this paper is to compare the discourse markers of chapters 14 to 39 in Yu Guofan and Jenner's English versions in the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. The research center of this thesis is the similarities and differences between the two versions of discourse markers. The research methods used in this paper are quantitative and qualitative analysis, and the following conclusions are based on the above two analytical methods. First, in terms of the similarities between the two versions, both translators use the discourse connectives and but, the temporal markers now and the thenand the resultant marker so to obtain a coherent and popular translation. The greatest similarities between the two versions lie in the fact that the discourse connectors: and but.And are used to indicate the conditions between sentences. As a result, the event continuation and contrastive relationship. But has many functions, namely, topic change markers, contrastive markers, modified markers and negative anticipatory markers. Second, the differences between the two versions can be divided into two categories. The first is that under the same context, the two translators use different discourse markers, namely, the contrastive marker although/though and the discourse conjunction but, the time marker then and the discourse conjunction and, the result marker so and the discourse conjunction and. Second, in the same context, sometimes Yu Guofan uses discourse markers and sometimes Jenner uses discourse markers. Yu Guofan adds different types of discourse markers in his translation, such as the information marker you see, the inferred marker of course, and the contrast marker in factso as to organize a coherent translation and express the characters' feelings and attitudes. Jenner's translation mainly adds the inferential markers so, the discourse connectives and but, and the temporal marker the then. This paper has the following three aspects of significance. First of all, this paper clarifies the differences between a western scholar and an overseas Sinologist and makes some contributions to the translation of Chinese classics. Secondly, this thesis enriches translation studies. The translator should pay attention to discourse markers in order to make the translation more accurate and true. Finally, this thesis has some implications for English teaching and writing. Students should make good use of discourse markers to obtain coherent articles.
