《芬威克的职业生涯》翻译实践报告

【摘要】：本文是基于玛丽·沃德的小说《芬威克的职业生涯》所做的翻译实践报告。小说讲述了男主人公芬威克虽以卖画为生,却依旧艰难度日,后来他获得了莫里森先生的资助,便撇下妻儿独自去往伦敦求学讨生活。不久妻子菲比发现他在外隐瞒婚姻事实并误会他已不再需要她,一气之下带着女儿离开了家乡,从此二人断了联系。十二年之后,他们才得以团圆。奈达的功能对等理论强调词汇、句法、语篇和文体四方面的对等,同时较为注重读者的反应,而小说翻译要求译者不仅要做到翻译的准确性,还要传达出小说的风格特征,同时也要注意目的语读者的阅读习惯,因此,笔者认为功能对等理论对小说的翻译具有一定的指导意义。本报告由五个部分组成。第一部分介绍了小说的作者、梗概、所选材料的特点。第二部分介绍了奈达的功能对等理论以及功能对等理论在小说翻译中的适用性。第三部分是翻译过程,其中包括译前准备,译中遇到的难点以及译后校对,第四部分是案例分析,以奈达的功能对等理论为指导,详细阐释及论述该理论在小说《芬威克的职业生涯》的翻译过程中所用到的翻译策略,在词汇对等方面,从四字词语的翻译和词性转换两方面展开;在句法对等方面,采用顺译和句序调整等翻译策略,在文本对等方面,从对话翻译和心理描写的翻译进行探讨。第五部分是对本次翻译实践的总结,论述了译者在此次翻译实践中的启发与收获,以及本次翻译对今后翻译实践的启发。
[Abstract]:This paper is based on the translation practice of Mary Ward's novel Finwick's career. The novel tells the story of the protagonist Finwick, who sells paintings for a living but still struggles to survive. Later, with the aid of Mr. Morrison, he leaves his wife and children to go to London alone to earn a living. Soon after, his wife Phoebe discovered that he was hiding the fact of his marriage and misunderstood that he no longer needed her, and angrily left home with his daughter, and the two men lost touch with each other. Twelve years later, they were reunited. Nida's functional equivalence theory emphasizes the equivalence of vocabulary, syntax, discourse and style, and pays more attention to the reader's response. The translation of novel requires the translator not only to achieve the accuracy of translation, but also to convey the stylistic features of the novel. At the same time, we should pay attention to the reading habits of the target language readers. Therefore, the author thinks that the functional equivalence theory has certain guiding significance for the translation of the novel. The present report consists of five parts. The first part introduces the author, outline and characteristics of the selected materials. The second part introduces Nida's functional equivalence theory and its applicability in novel translation. The third part is the translation process, which includes the pre-translation preparation, the difficulties encountered in translation and post-translation proofreading. The fourth part is a case study, guided by Nida's functional equivalence theory. The translation strategies used in the translation of the novel "Finwick's career" are explained and discussed in detail. In terms of lexical equivalence, the translation of four-word words and the conversion of part-of-speech are carried out, while the syntactic equivalence is also discussed. This paper discusses the translation of dialogue and psychological description in the aspect of text equivalence by means of translation strategies such as sequence translation and sentence order adjustment. The fifth part summarizes the translation practice, discusses the translator's inspiration and gain in this translation practice, as well as the enlightenment of this translation to the future translation practice.
