基于语料库的二语学生与学者学术英语写作中的词块使用研究

【摘要】:作为学术写作的重要组成部分,词块的准确使用能够反映英语学术写作的流畅性和准确性。国内外大多数相关研究都采用基于语料库的方法对学术写作中词块的使用展开了研究。国外研究过多关注本族语者和二语学习者在不同学科、不同体裁的学术写作中词块的使用。同时,国内研究主要针对于英语专业或非英语专业在校大学生对词块的使用。然而,国内外较少的研究关注不同程度的高水平二语学习者在特定学科下的二语学术写作中词块的使用特征。本研究采用基于语料库的研究方法,旨在发现中国高水平二语学习者在特定学科下的英语学术写作中高频率使用的词块,讨论其所使用词块的频率分布和结构、功能特征,同时对词块使用具有差异性的原因进行探讨,从而为英语学术写作和教学提供启示。基于以上研究目的,本文采用Biber et al.(1999)和Hyland(2008b)提出的词块结构和功能分类作为研究框架,自建三个语料库用来分析中国不同程度的高水平二语学习者在二语学术写作中词块使用的异同。基于特定的词块提取标准,本文使用语料库软件Antconc 3.3.5并结合人工筛选,从本族语学者期刊论文语料库、中国学者期刊论文语料库和中国英语专业硕士生论文语料库中分别提取出目标四词词块。通过与本族语学者期刊论文语料库中词块使用的对比,总结得出中国学者和中国硕士生词块使用的总体特征和结构、功能特点。结合使用对数似然率检验进一步分析对比不同语料库中词块分布使用的差异。最后通过讨论词块使用具有差异性的可能原因,为英语二语写作和教学提供启示。研究结果包括以下三方面:1.高水平二语学习者比本族语学者较多使用词块,但其所使用词块的丰富性不及本族语学者。三个语料库中存在共同出现的词块,二语学习者对共同出现的词块存在过度使用或使用不足的状况。2.不同程度的高水平二语学习者所使用的词块具有不同的结构和功能分布特点。3.随着二语写作水平的提高,较高水平的二语学习者即中国学者的词块使用同本族语学者之间的差距随之缩小,而中国硕士生需加强词块在二语学术写作中的使用。本研究在帮助中国学者提高国际学术交流中的写作能力的同时,发现中国硕士生在二语学术写作中词块使用所存在的问题。本文的研究结果和研究视角也为今后的词块研究提供一定的研究启示。
[Abstract]:As an important part of academic writing, the accurate use of lexical chunks can reflect the fluency and accuracy of English academic writing. Most studies at home and abroad have studied the use of lexical chunks in academic writing using corpus-based methods. Too much attention has been paid to the use of lexical chunks in different disciplines and genres of academic writing by native speakers and second language learners. At the same time, the domestic research mainly focuses on the use of lexical chunks for English majors and non-English majors. However, few studies at home and abroad have focused on the characteristics of lexical chunks in L2 academic writing at different levels of high proficiency L2 learners. Using a corpus-based approach, the present study aims to find out the lexical chunks used by high-level Chinese L2 learners in English academic writing in specific disciplines, and to discuss the frequency distribution, structure and functional characteristics of the lexical chunks they use. At the same time, the reasons for the differences in the use of lexical chunks are discussed, so as to provide enlightenment for English academic writing and teaching. Based on the above research purposes, this paper uses the lexical chunks structure and function classification proposed by Biber et al. (1999 and Hyland (2008b) as the research framework. Three corpora were built to analyze the similarities and differences of lexical chunks used by Chinese high level L2 learners in L2 academic writing. Based on the specific lexical chunks extraction criteria, this paper uses the corpus software Antconc 3.3.5, combined with manual selection, from the Corpus of native linguists and periodicals. The target four word chunks were extracted from the Chinese academic journal corpus and the master thesis corpus of Chinese English majors. By comparing the use of lexical chunks in the corpus of journals of native linguists, the author concludes the general characteristics, structure and function of the use of lexical chunks by Chinese scholars and Chinese masters. The differences of lexical chunks distribution in different corpora were further analyzed by using logarithmic likelihood ratio test. Finally, this paper discusses the possible reasons for the differences in lexical chunks, and provides enlightenment for English second language writing and teaching. The results include the following three aspects: 1. High level L2 learners use lexical chunks more than native linguists, but their lexical chunks are less abundant than native linguists. There are common lexical chunks in the three corpora, and L2 learners have overused or underused lexical chunks. 2. The lexical chunks used by high-level L2 learners at different levels have different structural and functional distribution characteristics. 3. With the improvement of L2 writing level, the gap between the use of lexical chunks of Chinese scholars and that of native linguists has narrowed, while Chinese Master students need to strengthen the use of lexical chunks in L2 academic writing. While helping Chinese scholars to improve their writing ability in international academic exchanges, the present study finds out the problems in the use of lexical chunks in second language academic writing. The research results and perspectives of this paper also provide some enlightenment for the future study of lexical chunks.
