文化专有项翻译策略在《统一尼德兰史》汉译中的运用

【摘要】：笔者以约翰·莫特利的《统一尼德兰史》选段作为翻译实践文本,该著作讲述了尼德兰民族独立战争,详细描述了 1584年至1609年尼德兰联邦与由腓力二世领导的西班牙王权之间的漫长斗争。在汉译过程中,笔者发现原文涵盖了大量与尼德兰和西班牙历史相关的文化背景与历史事件,而且由于尼德兰独立战争涉及多方面的政治和宗教等因素,其它欧洲国家如法国、英国和德国也卷入其中,所以原文中出现了大量的文化专有项,给翻译造成了一定的困难。文化专有项是翻译中的一个常见难点,文化专有项翻译处理的好坏在很大程度上影响了文本整体翻译的效果与质量。所以,众多学者在这一领域进行了深入而广泛的研究,其中,最具代表性的是西班牙译者艾克西拉,他针对文化专有项的翻译提出了十一种翻译策略,并总结了四个影响翻译策略采用的跨文本因素,在相关翻译实践的指导上具有很大的实用性。本文运用艾克西拉的文化专有项翻译理论,对《统一尼德兰史》中的文化专有项根据其跨文化程度进行了相应的翻译处理,其中采用较多的有文外解释、文内解释、重复、绝对泛化和本地化,笔者也根据翻译效果对这几种翻译策略的优缺点进行了分析和总结。而艾克西拉提出的另外几种翻译策略则不太适用于本文的翻译实践文本,如转换拼写法策略依赖的是英语与西班牙语之间的字母可转换性;使用同义词策略是为了避免用词重复,但中文对于重复用词并不排斥;还有删除法和自创法,由于包含了很强的译者主观性,所以不太适用于看重准确性和纪实性的历史社科类文本。本文通过具体文本的翻译实践,对文化专有项的不同翻译策略就其优缺点和适用条件进行了分析与总结,以期对文化专有项的翻译研究提供一些帮助。
[Abstract]:The author takes the selected passages of John Mottley's the History of the Unification of Niederland as the translation practice, which tells the story of the Niederan National Independence War. Detailed description of the long struggle between the Confederation of Niederland and Wang Quan of Spain, led by Philip II, from 1584 to 1609. In the process of translating into Chinese, the author finds that the original text covers a large number of cultural backgrounds and historical events related to the history of Niederland and Spain, and because of the political and religious factors involved in the Niederan War of Independence, other European countries such as France, Britain and Germany are also involved, so there are a lot of cultural-specific items in the original text, which makes translation difficult. Culture-specific items are a common difficulty in translation. The quality of culture-specific items in translation greatly affects the effect and quality of text translation as a whole. Therefore, many scholars have carried out in-depth and extensive research in this field, among which the most representative one is the Spanish translator Aksila, who puts forward eleven translation strategies for culture-specific items. It also summarizes the four cross-text factors that influence the translation strategy, and it has great practicability in the guidance of translation practice. Based on the translation theory of culture-specific items proposed by Aksilla, this paper deals with the translation of culture-specific items according to their cross-cultural level in the United Nidelan History, in which more extrinsic, intra-text and repetitive explanations are used. Based on absolute generalization and localization, the author also analyzes and summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of these translation strategies. The other translation strategies proposed by Aksila are not suitable for the translation practice of this paper, such as the translation strategy depends on the letter conversion between English and Spanish. The strategy of using synonyms is to avoid repetition, but Chinese is not exclusive of repetitive words. The deletion method and the self-creation method, because of the strong subjectivity of the translator, are not suitable for historical and social science texts which value accuracy and reality. Based on the translation practice of specific texts, this paper analyzes and summarizes the advantages and disadvantages and applicable conditions of different translation strategies of culture-specific items in order to provide some help to the translation study of culture-specific items.
