英语基本情态助动词与过去时语法范畴的概念整合研究——以COULD的情态语法意义建构为例

【摘要】：本文运用概念整合理论论证了英语基本情态助动词CAN的过去时形式COULD的情态语法意义是CAN的情态语法意义与英语动词过去时语法意义概念整合的结果。COULD在自然社会域中表示人或物的某种能力或性质导致某一行为或状态在过去发生或出现的可能性;在认知域中表示人或物的某种能力或性质导致说话人在说话时刻推测或假设某一行为或状态发生或存在的可能性较小;在言语行为域中表示说话人在说话时刻依据听话人的某种显而易见的能力向其表达客气或委婉的请求或命令。本文还据此系统解释了COULD的种种语用功能。
[Abstract]:This paper proves that the modal grammatical meaning of the past tense form of the English basic modal auxiliary verb CAN is the result of the integration of the modal grammatical meaning of CAN and the grammatical meaning of the English verb past tense by using the concept integration theory. Cood is the natural result of the integration of the modal grammatical meaning of CAN and the past tense grammatical meaning of English verb. The possibility in a social domain that a certain capacity or nature of a person or thing leads to the occurrence or emergence of an act or state in the past; The ability or nature of representing a person or thing in the cognitive domain causes the speaker to speculate or assume that an act or state occurs or exists at the time of speech; In the speech act domain, the speaker expresses a polite or euphemistic request or order to the speaker at the time of speaking on the basis of some obvious ability of the listener. This paper also systematically explains the pragmatic functions of COULD.
