认识情态“can”的语义发展及机制

【摘要】：据统计,"can"是情态范畴内使用频率最高的情态词。作为多义词,情态词从最初的实词演变为语法功能词,经历了一系列演变。然而,对"can"是否已经演变为认识情态尚未达成共识。文章以多个语料库为基础,运用断代的历时研究方法,立足于现代英语时期,从语义和认知角度探究"can"的语法化历程以及演变机制。通过研究证实了"can"已经广泛用于判断命题的真实性。
[Abstract]:According to statistics, "can" is the most frequently used modal word in the category of modality. As polysemous words, modal words have evolved from the original real words to grammatical functional words, and have experienced a series of evolution. However, there is no consensus on whether can has evolved into cognitive modality. Based on several corpus, this paper explores the grammaticalization process and evolution mechanism of "can" from the semantic and cognitive point of view, based on the diachronic research method of dating and based on the modern English period. Through the research, it is confirmed that "can" has been widely used to judge the authenticity of propositions.
