基于语料库的美国当代英语现在完成时和一般过去时动态关系的跨语域研究

【摘要】：英语现在完成时和一般过去时动态变化间的关系一直是英语时体研究领域中一个重要却又很令人困惑的话题,这两个结构都与过去时间指代相关联,而且在许多英语变体中,两者之间的界限并不分明。有些之前往往和一般过去时连用的语境,如vesterday,或者习惯和现在完成时连用的语境,如since,都出现了与对方连用的情况,甚至越来越常见。因此有学者指出,现在完成时和一般过去时的动态变化不应像之前许多研究那样分开来独立研究,而应从一个更广阔的角度,即从两者之间的竞争关系来研究。本研究采用目前规模最大,语域分布最平衡的当代美国英语语料库(The Corpus of Contemporary American English),旨在探究现在完成时和一般过去时在五个语域(口语、小说、杂志、新闻、学术)中的动态变化间的关系。结果发现,除了学术语域,在其他四个语域和总语料库里,现在完成时和一般过去时的动态变化都有关联——负相关(即竞争关系)或者正相关。更具体地说,现在完成时和一般过去时的历时发展在总语料库和口语语域中呈现出竞争关系,而在小说、杂志、新闻语域中呈现出正相关,在学术语域中则没有显著关联。本文还就两者之所以会在各语域中呈现出某种变化趋势和关系模式进行了尝试性的解释。本研究将“语域”这个维度引入到英语时体历时演变研究体系中去,并采用了相对来说更具说服力的统计方法来呈现出一幅现在完成时和一般过去时在当代美国英语中的变化趋势和关系模式的全景图,并综合分析了促成该全景图形成的因素。
